Is loud squeaky noise normal on Z28 rear end?

My rear end sure is squeaky! Is that normal for a Camaro? It's so loud that people turn their heads when I go over speed bumps. Here is a link to a wave file that was recorded while I pushed down on the rear of my Z28 a few times. I didn't push real hard.

Loud squeaky noise coming from rear end- 1998 Camaro Z28. (75K - Wave file) (http://home.comcast.net/~kr4495/temp/squeak.wav)

Is that normal? Any suggestions?

I had a similar problem when I bought my car from the original owner. Took it to the dealer because the car was under warranty and they traced it to panhard rod bushings. I suspect they sprayed some graphite lube on them and called it good. Try that and see if it helps your noise problem. Spray all bushings in the rear. Check the rear shocks as well.

I have the same problem when going over speedbumps. It might be your rear swaybar endlinks [I just had mine changed yesterday, but I have yet to drive it over a speedbump to see if it changed at all].

I've also heard that it might be the rear springs popping out of the spring perches

Exactly the problem on my friends Camaro, we traced it back to the swaybar bushings. Replaced the bushings and endlinks as well and called it a day.

I will make a confirmation, it was my rear endlinks that made the squeaks. I just drove my car over a bunch of speed bumps today, noise is gone! $15 for a set of polyurethane rear endlinks at your local AutoZone.

Sorry, I just grouped my friend's bushing problem with the whole rear sway bar idea. We diagnosed the problem with a can of spray lube and one person viciously pushing down on the rear bumper while the other listened for the noise to subside after spraying various potential trouble points. While replacing the bushings with a poly pair, we also replaced the endlinks with poly replacements as wel..
