I know this is kind of like asking "How long will my stock motor last on nitrous" but with a stock 10 bolt launching at about 3-4k rpms on drags how many passes do you think it would last? 1? 4, 10....your best guess.

10 bolt with dragsGrims 10-26-2005, 02:36 PM I know this is kind of like asking "How long will my stock motor last on nitrous" but with a stock 10 bolt launching at about 3-4k rpms on drags how many passes do you think it would last? 1? 4, 10....your best guess. OctaneZ28 10-26-2005, 05:05 PM I'm on a full slick with my stock 2.73-geared 10-bolt. 2500rpm launches, it's taken about 150 passes, still going strong. 2.73s seem to be stronger with the 2-series posi and gears though, and I know I'm on borrowed time! 3.23s and 3.42s seem to hold up ok too, provided you're not making huge power. 3.73s and 4.10s, while good for the track, they don't last long. ~350rwhp is about the limit for a 10-bolt I think. 2000GTP 10-26-2005, 05:22 PM Its one of those questions that can't be easily answered. The fact is that most people will agree that an M6, high rpm clutch dumps, and very sticky tires will make for a quick death for your rearend. I pissed away lotsa $$$ on rebuilding the 10-bolt 3 times before getting a 12-bolt. Start saving for a 12-bolt/9" now because it will eventually break. jruther1@columbus.rr 11-09-2005, 10:34 PM Hello I have a 1983 camaro and it has a m5 trans and i have about 100 passes on my 10 bolt after i installed a torson carrier with 373 gears. I broke an alburn posi the frist time at the line. It is a 355 engine 10 to 1 compression runs 12.5 108 1/4 mile. Running hooster 11" dot slicks and take off at 3500 to 4000 rpm clutch drop. Still holding up but now long?? Thanks Jim cpt_bimes 11-09-2005, 10:38 PM A buddie of mine made countless low 11 sec passes on his nitrous converter LS1. for the most part auto guys have no fear of breaking the rear. M6 guys...its like playing with fire...sooner or later you'll get burnt. 94z'sson 11-09-2005, 10:49 PM say bye-bye on a hard launch if it sticks with the gas and a M6 TransAmAbe 11-10-2005, 08:49 AM This topic has been covered dozens of times. It's hit or miss. You can find people who are running 11's on stock 10-bolt. A buddy of mine has plenty of mid-12's on his stock 10-bolt ('01 Z28), and he's got an M6, runs with drag radials, 1.8XX is his best 60'. There is one guy who ran 10's I believe on stock 10-bolt. Do a search, this issue has not been resolved and probably never will be. Abe | ||
