subwoofer should b facing towards front or back?
I just bought 2 alpines 5.5 , 2 12"diamond audio subs , 1 memphis amp.. I hear it bumping real hard in the inside which is nice. But i cant hear the bass that much from the outside.... Right now i have a temporary box with the 2 subwoofers facing the front... Could that be the prob?

I have two 12" MTX subs faces to the back.. and same thing.. bump on the inside.. wel almost head imploding on the inside if i turn it up... but on the outside you do not hear them, except for the rattles of loose parts here and there... Be happy.. just means you can listen to your subs and get a headache without the noise police bothering you..

Yeah, it's actually a good thing. It means your car is well-sealed and that everything is screwed together properly.
If you want to hear it outside, open the windows.

Yea, why in the hell would you want it to be loud on the outside... I hear those cars all the time, and just think how horrible it sounds, because typically it's body panels rattling and vibrating which to me sounds like crap.
I've got a 4kWrms system in my Firebird, and fully turned up, it's audiable on the outside, but no where's near loud... you open a door and stick your head inside, and your brain starts to hurt instantly.

Re: subwoofer should b facing towards front or back?
4000 watts RMS power should be enough to make your ears bleed and your brain turn to goo if you sit in the car... and have it up... But yes.. I agree . If you can here the body panels rattle on a car from 20 ft away.. it does sound just horrible. heck.. with 4000wats you should be able to see the cars body panels flex (like the roof) from the pressure you would think
Re: subwoofer should b facing towards front or back?
Honestly, it's not an SPL stereo, it's setup for SQ, but is extremely powerful, closer to 3.5kWrms though.
I've got all Adire Audio speakers; Koda 6.1's up front and in the sails, and a pair of Brahma MKII 10" subs. Eash sub is driven by a dedicated 1500Wrms amp; and the other speakers run ~125Wrms each.
The stereo is extremely clean and great sounding, but it is LOUD.
And actually because it is a SQ setup and my subs are in small sealed enclosures, the SPL numbers aren't crazy, I average about 140-145. But the entire car has about 12 cans of ruberized undercoating inside it, and is full of sound deadening foam in other areas (No Dynamat either) and there are NO rattles in the car from the stereo at all.
As for body flexing, due to the lower SPL numbers there aren't really any issues with it.
I installed the same subs with smaller amps, and large ported enclosures, into a friends S10 extended cab, and that thing is LOUD, like upwards of 150+ but doesn't sound nearly as clean as mine does due to the enclosures.

Re: subwoofer should b facing towards front or back?
I think it's funny that 140-145db can be considered "low". Sure, it's not record-setting, but it's enough to give you a concussion. How is that low?
12 cans of coating, and you expected to hear it outside the car?

Re: subwoofer should b facing towards front or back?
No, I didn't expect to hear it outside the car, that was the point, to keep the music in, and road noise out.
140-145 to me is low, a lot of the vehicles that I deal with are the 150-160 range, especially with the newer "super" drivers out, ex: RE XXX, Brahma, W7...

Re: subwoofer should b facing towards front or back?
from my experience it always sounded better with the speakers facing teh rear of teh car ,
whether u could hear it outside the car didnt matter , hearing it inside is what did

My car makes more exhaust noise at idle than you can hear the stereo from outside with the volume at 30/35 which still registers in the 130+ range. We measured the DB at 10' away on the outside, and my exhaust alone, and then with the stereo on; there was no difference which means the exhaust is the louder of the two. Although true-duals exiting out the sides of the car with only Bullet Mufflers will do that.
Proper sound deadening and control are everything in a car stereo; most cars you think of, the "boom" cars that play music for the neighberhood (sp) are just the know nothings that just want boom. A true SQ or SQL car should be deadened enough where the music inside doesn't escape the vehicle much if at all.
Re: subwoofer should b facing towards front or back?
It doesn’t matter which way the subs are facing. If you think your stereo is quiet then park it in your drive way and leave it turned up, go in side your house and shut the door. You will defiantly hear the low frequencies in an enclosed space rather then outside right next to the car.
