MINT '86 Z28 400 hp, 6 spd etc... Asking $5500.00

There is so much to list on this car that I'm not sure where to start, but I'll try to break it down into these sections; Engine, Drivetrain, suspension, interior and body.

First a little history. I'm the third owner of the car. It was originally bought by an older woman and used as a summer daily driver, and it was always garaged. It was an LG4/T-5 car that came with a 3.23, posi drum brake rear.

My friend Mark bought the car in about 1992 in mint condition. He drove it as a daily driver but always kept it washed, waxed and garaged. In about '95 he did cam intake and headers and ran it at the track ONCE and turned a 14.5. He later installed the current engine, trans and rear, couldn't get it to pass Massachusetts emissions, so it didn't get driven. It sat in his garage for 3-4 years, only getting started and moved for "excercise" and that's it.

I bought it last summer. I flew to Mass, got in the car, and drove it 2300 miles to Park City, Utah in 38 hours. That alone is an indicator of the good condition the car was kept in. Since then, I've installed new tires, a Cable X, and built a custom exhaust for it. The car runs awesome, looks great and handles exceptionally well. I ran the car at the local track in Salt Lake City twice, for a total of four passes. Starting w/a 1200 RPM "soft launch", and granny shifting every gear at 5500 (too low for this combo), it ran a 13.9 @ 102...at 4500' elevation. The car could easily run high 12's at sea level on street tires.

Now on to the "specs"...

*Kenwood EQ
*Three amps
*Plates in dash

BODY
*Never been in an accident that bent any metal. Once it was backed into and there are "stress cracks" on one side of the front bumper cover
*All paint on the car is original
*The top of the rear bumper cover the clear coat is faded
*There is a blemish in the clear/paint on the roof behind the drivers T-Top.
*There is a thin scratch on the drivers side door below the belt line
*There a few rock chips on the front of the car.
*The bottom center of the lower front valance is scuffed from curbs I suspect.
*All weather stripping is in awesome condition.
*Door jambs and sills look almost brand new.
*Glass is in great shape.
T-Tops are not scratched, work well lock and unlock, and only leak in a car wash; not in the rain (though the car has rarely seen rain)

That's about it I think. Pics are coming. I'm selling to buy....a Corvette. Something I've wanted since I knew what a Corvette was.

EDIT:Everything in the car works except for two things:
*The AC had been converted to R134a but hasn't been charged so it needs a charge
*The Cruise Control was removed when the engine was changed. The wiring is intact but the drive under the hood is gone.

Everything else works great;
*power locks
*All interior and exterior lighting
*all gauges
*Power windows
*power seat
*power hatch and hatch lift
*Wipers/delay, etc.
*Stereo (sounds great BTW)
*E-brake
*Has a new heater core

The body has about 150,000 miles but the entire drive train has approximately 6000 miles on it . I've run only Mobil 1 in the engine, ATF in the 6-speed, and 75w-90 synthetic in the rear. There is absolutely zero rust anywhere on this car, period. NONE. Even the suspension pieces are all painted black. No rust. The entire floor pan has the original grey factory paint and rust protectant coating.

This car was taken absolutely immaculate care of all of it's life. I am probably the "laziest" owner of the three owners the car has had, and I still wash it and wax it after almost every outing ("outings" are about once every couple weeks).

The previous owner was borderline obsessive/compulsive about the car, which was somewhat entertaining back when he owned it, and good ammo for picking on him a little bit; at least once he polished the transmission, as well as the muffler. (!) He was kind of a freak about the way he babied the car. The cool end result of that general culture of taking care of the car, is that I got a sweet, sweet car. And the next person can get more of the same.

EDIT II:I forgot to mention fuel economy; it get's 20 on the highway at speeds over 75 mph. Just drove the car to Lake Powell for the weekend and got 20.5 mpg on one tank, and 21.6 on the second tank. Not bad for ~400 hp.
It has gotten a BEST of 22 mpg on a road trip. Around town, the gas milage blows. 10-14 depending on how you drive it.

Diognes56, Thanks for the nice props man! :) Over on TGO too. :)

No you don't need a proof of address. Just go to the PO, pay the box fee, get the box. If you were RENTING a house, room, condo, etc in that zip code, how would you "prove" residence? You don't have to that I know of.

When I moved to Park City, I just went down to the PO, and rented a box. Then registered my vehicles to that box for 7 years, until I bought my house.

If anyone is really serious about this, I'd be willing to help set up a PO box here for you.

I'm asking for $5500 OBO. So make me an offer. What's it worth to you? :)

I wonder what is so difficult about making an offer.... (?)

Most people don't want to low-ball you. Either that or it's the wrong time of year to be selling a car for more than it's worth. :)

Storm861triple
12-01-2005, 03:11 PM
Are you implying that I'm asking more than the car is worth? I'm not offended by low-balling. Worst thing that can happen is that I won't sell the car..and that's not bad at all.

I think $5500 is a very good price for what you have in it. I would be all over it if I had the money! Good luck. Somebody needs this car for next spring!

Thanks KD...That's pretty much what I was thinking too.

I was thinking some more about what F_1 said about the time of year too; It may be the "wrong time of year", but IMO, someone who has made a deliberate decision to buy a car like this, it doesn't matter what time you buy it. It's a long term purchase; not a "summer" one, I would hope. When I made the decision to buy my tourny ski boat, I started shopping. I found one in August and sealed the deal on two weeks. I drove to Tennessee to get it and back to Park City which took three days. All just in time for the end of summer. Was it worth it? Hell yes it was! That was 5 years ago, and I've had 5 years/500 hours of fun with it since and many more to come. So the three day trip, and the first winters storage was a small and insignificant price to pay. IMO, in the long run, it doesn't really matter what time of year you buy a toy like this. :)

No, sorry. I'm on a mission here, and the ONLY reason I'm selling the car is because...
I'm selling to buy....a Corvette. Something I've wanted since I knew what a Corvette was.

It's going to sell on ebay in the next three hours probably for a lot less than I'm asking for on here (unfortunately). :( You may want to get in on the action there...
