I'm wanting to buy an 86 Camaro for parts for my El Camino (tranny). Its an automatic i know for sure. So that would mean its probably a 700-R4 right? It also has a V8 4bbl i'm sure of.....the lady said she thinks its a 350. What year did they start putting 350's in camaros again? I know after the 2nd gen was over...they slapped in 305's.
She has two cars for sale. An 86 with a V8 and an 8? with a 4 cylinder. She wants $100 per car if anyone is interested in the 4 cylinder for body parts in South Louisiana.

I'll give a quick car history. The V8 belonged to her son. He got hit in a parking lot so he bought the 4 cylinder car for body parts. He parked both cars in his moms back yard and never got around to swapping the parts. Both cars ran 5 years ago. Now they have completely lost interest and wants $100 per car.

Sorry...made a mistake. Both cars are firebirds.
Again...sorry fellas

Officially 1987. They made a few prototypes in 1986, but only 50 or so were made - maybe. The 350 was never offered in a 82-92 F-Body with a carb. They were fuel injected - tuned port injection only.

It's possible the engine has been swapped though. It's not unheard of :)

Well....i would imagine its the original motor. The guy bought it new and has ZERO mechanical inclanation. So its probably a 305? What about the tranny....700-R4?

With the carb -- LG4 (low performance) 305 with a 700R4.

Recently a Chevy guy I know told me that GM actually made a whole bunch of 350 IROC Camaros, but never really told the public. They were listed and sold as 305 cars. Has anyone else heard or seen this??? Sounds like baloney to me, but, I am not the expert here.... Jess

Heard about that, but i'm not sure i believe that more than the recorded 50 were built. I was told something about special use possoble a police package that was offered as an off order sheet RPO being triggered by a combination of other RPOs, similar to the G92 triggering the 1LE under certain conditions.

i dont know about how many were produced but i heard alot of 305s were sold as 350s. i was told to look for a square gear shift knob and therefore its a 350. and without looking up the numbers.
but heck for a 100.00 bucks a piece they are worth it even for fiebirds...lol
bye for now ladies and gentlemen.....

The square shift knob just means it an 87 up. Only the 87 and later cars got the 350 as an option.

beaux - If it's original it's not a 350. He's trying to pass it along as a 350 as most people try to do. And, if it's an auto, it's the TH700R4.

whiteminqua - They sold a lot of 350 IROC's, and believe me, it's no secret :) And I seriously doubt GM would drop in a 350 and not charge extra...

There were 50 prototypes in 86 that had the L98. All 50 hit the crusher and never made it into the public. As much as people love to fantasize about GM making special cars that "leaked out", the fact is it just doesn't happen. Between all of the CARB and CAFE certification costs, cars don't just "leak out".

Dispite the fact that everybody knows a guy that had a cousin that used to give the head of GM bj's on his lunch break and got one of these cars, I have yet to see any documentation of any kind that supports it.

Yep. none ever made it to the public, period.
