Question How to install a power antenna?

I'm kinda lost here.
Why do I have the hook up at the radio for the power antena but nothing in the hatch?
That strange I thought that you only have one harness and the plug would be there even if you don't have it.
But why would I have the wire on the radio plug and not in the back?
Is the plug under the dash and I have to get it there.
Thanks,

Re: How to install a power antenna?

My car has a 4 prong plug with a gray, black, green, and orange wires in the back near my radio antenna. Is this the power antenna plug? Or does it go to a phantom radio amp that I've read about?
In any case, I'm installing an OEM power antenna I bought on Ebay for $70 (too much). I was going to use the instructions from this site:
http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/fbody/powerantenna.htm

Incidently:
On my 98 Z28, I have the dash-plug for the foglight switch and the drop down brackets in the front-end but not the switch, relay contacts, or light plugs. There is no way to install them like the factory. I also have a dash-plug for the ASR switch but my car has none of that.

See and that's my point.
I talk to somebody yesterday when I had my car on the dyno and he told me there is a plug by the radio harness that another harness plugs into and runs to the back for the power antenna.
See the terminal where the "Power Antenna Output" is on the harness has a wire there.
So what he said must be true.
I don't know I'm lost I'm going to have to do some searching behind my dash board.

There's no plug in the spare tire space?

Might find some info here: www.installdr.com

Nope.
But like I said when I put my radio in there is a wire for the power antenna on the car's harness.
So I am guessing there must be a plug with the turn on in it with some power wires along with it.
It looks like a will have to do some tracing of some of the wires as best as I can without pulling the car apart.

Pink wire is power antenna wire.

Re: How to install a power antenna?

I just got mine all put together. It works great! And, it looks so much better.

When I took the stereo plug out of the stereo it had no wire in the 8th position (right to left), pink wire. It would be on the black part of the plug which is a 10 position plug. There is a white part underneath also. I used a Motormite connector (Motormite p/n 85324 at RockAuto.com, $2.20) that slid right into the empty socket on the black plug and I ran a green wire from it back to the antenna.
Next to my antenna was a funny 4 prong connector with an orange wire (power) so I used a quick-splice connector on the orange and added power to the antenna. For ground I just ran the black antenna wire to the mounting bracket. Badabing badaboom...Automatic antenna!

Anyway, just follow the wire from the stereo connector. It most likely isn't part of the regular wire harness unless your car came with that option. In that case there should be a 3-pin plug (Black, Green, Orange) somewere near the antenna, perhaps buried underneath the carpet or fallen back into the passenger side plastic. If all else fails then just rewire it. No biggie.

Let us know how it turns out...

Re: How to install a power antenna?

Here's a good site for help on antenna install...
http://www.blackcamaro.com/antenna.htm
He clearly shows the plug on the back of the radio and the missing wire.

From what I heard, none of the Camaros had electric antennas, nor the wiring for it. There are acouple plugs in the back for an amp and possibly a motion detector(?) for the alarm system? Here's a picture of my install...

And here's a picture of a connector that will work on the radio...

That's the one I used. It come out of an old serial adaptor plug for my computer.

I followed the "blackcamaro" instructions and used power from the amp harness. As you can see in the picture, I did the same as Samault, and grounded to the bracket.

Good Luck!
