Urea. It could make diesel cars happen here..
Re: Urea. It could make diesel cars happen here..
at least i wasn't the first one to go there.
actually, it would need to be concentrated urea, number 1 in a tank would produce to many other chemicals which would probably affect the urea system.

All joking aside....
This has some incredible potential. Think of an HHR with an Opel twin turbo 1.9L diesel with 300 lbs/ft of torque at 1,400 rpm.....

now that sounds good. i agree with you Z284ever, this could lead to some very interesting production vehicles in the near future. diesel tech has come along way.

That it reduces emmisions is fine and dandy - but I'd soon be looking for ways of making my "new" diesel run fine without that extra additive.
Like I need a vehicle that would constatly be reminding me to put in more additive.

Sounds like the Sulfur scrubbers that Power plants use to reduce emissions around here. They basically spray a Sulfer solution into the steam rising from burning coal and it picks up a lot of chemicals that are harmful to the environment.
So you could use Biodiesel that is made from refined cooking oil along with some pee and get clean burning cheap diesel? Cool.
As for the people worrying about additives. Maybe there could be a second tank on the vehicle and nozzle next to the Diesel nozzle so you could refill your Urea tank at the same time as the fuel tank.

Charlie is right - we may not see diesels powering the Z06 or GT, but on the streets we "normal" guys may start getting challenged at stop lights by tiny diesels that weigh nothing and can launch with the front wheels off the ground.
Believe it or not, there are 12-second diesel trucks that weigh 7000lbs riding around the streets of USA right now. The potential is there.
Nice find Charlie.
PS - I'm leaving for Germany again this Friday for some "testing" of new "machinery"!
Going with an engineer from Rockwell Automation in Mequan, WI too.I'll be driving, and we will be on the A4 and A6 autobahn for a while in a 6-spd manual with NAV (they won't tell me the model yet, and it's KILLING me!)
Headed towards Neudorf/Oberweisenthal on the border between Germany and the Czech Republic.

I'm curious as to why the article didn't mention that you should be able to pee into the gas tank whenever you need to give the car more urea. There are normally 20-40mg/100ml urea; it is the major way we eliminate nitrogen.

And they run 140-150 on the autobahn just as smooth as a whistle - ours ran 125-130 for almost 40 minutes straight on the A4 between Nuremburg and Munich.
