How do I change my shift points and rev limiter using tunercats?

The ECM constants list has the fuel cutoff and resume listings for rev limit.

The shift points are easily found in the tables list as "normal mode up/down shift points".

Ok, I saw those but what confused me at least on the shift point side is they have normal mode up/down shift points, and performance up/down shift points. I wasnt sure which one you were suppose to make the adjustments in. Also it seems the shift points are made by tps and mph. Does this mean you have to guess what rpm= a certain mph to adjust the shift points? Thanks.

You don't have to guess, exactly (you can use an online calculator to determine speed/RPM like http://www.f-body.org/gears/ ).

Wow either those figures are way off or my tach is messed up. I have stock 3:23 gears and it says my 6100 RPM shift point should be 47 MPH in first gear. In tuner cat I have it set to shift at 36 MPH.

Ok. At wot Im set to shift at 6800 rpm's. 1->2 41mph 2->3 78 3->4 127mph

Right now the down shift is 2->1 23mph 3->2 69mph 4->3 114

What would be optimal for downshifts when racing pesky 5 speed sohc Mustangs on the highway and Im allready cruising in O/D.

What I think it is, based on changing mine, is that the mph in the shift table is when the tranny starts to shift, but by the time it actually shifts you've gained several mph. For instance in my stock tables with 2.59 rear the difference at WOT for 1->2 was about 7 mph. When I changed recently to 3.54 gears I had to increase the difference to 12 mph to stay out of the fuel cutoff.

Also be aware that the WOT shifting is apparently determined by the "Kick down/up shift points" not the larger shift point tables.

Is there much to gain by having the Performance button? Do you have it hooked up? I've always wondered why the Camaros didn't have it. Will it work on all years?

94-95 only. I use it on my car. There is no gain or difference in WOT performance. It is only meant for part throttle driving to keep the engine revs a little higher.

Chevrolet has always been a cheaper price point motor division than Pontiac. Therefore, Pontiac got the option button.

Cool, I'm gonna hook it up so I can have two independent tables for city driving and the track. Also, my fiance (yes, I trust her with my car) uses the car when she feels like being cool for a day, and I'm always worried that the 1-2 shift at higher TPS will get her a bit sideways in anything but dry pavement ... more than the functionality of it, I think it's just plane damn COOL!! ... lol

dang, does this mean i could get my car up to 197 mph if i could get it up to 6500 in 4th gear :D :rolleyes:

performance button is the best mod in the whole 'ntire world jimbob. use it for soloII to keep your car in gear longer after you've gotten to the track, use it on cold mornings to keep rpm's down till the engine warms up, use it to save a bit of gas by programming conservative shift points for the daily commute through rush hours.
