hi, i have a 88 camaro 350 tpi and was wondering if anyone knew about a good intake swap. would an lt1 or ls1 intake fit, and if it did would i get any extra horsepower or not?

COMPLETELY different generation/bolt-pattern/flow :) You have a gen-I sbc, whereas an LT1 is a Gen-II, and an LS1 is a Gen-III. Not to mention the LT1/LS1 have reverse flow :(
But what I *do* recommend is a Holley Stealth Ram in place of that TPI :) I've heard that the HSR will actually give you the beutiful flat torque/hp peak that an LS1 has

yes, indeed it does...its basically a LT1 intake on roids...i'm very happy with mine, buckle down and enjoy tuning tho ;) ..its a fun and teadious process...maybe its because i changed eveyrthing in my motor, but i'm just startin to get this thing dialed in after 4 months...

You can convert an Lt1 intake

Werd.

A cheap miniram. Awesome.

I have an HSR and while it won't give you the power of an ls1 out of the box it will significantly increase where you can make power. The only problem is it doesn't work very well on large runner heads. Needs more material added.

Great mod over the TPI though. One of the mags picked up something crazy like 50 hp or something over a stock tpi intake as well as moving the available power band to 5k and up. No more falling on it's face at 4800...

The LT1 intake requires a remote t-state housing and the rear of the manifold to be welded flat and drilled for a dizzy.

So many options. What is the engine going to be ultimately used for?

LS1 isn't reverse flow. :)

did your car come with a 5sp(t5) or did you add it. i had the moderator of the advnaced discussion board tell me(while he was moving my post) that the 3rd gen 350's only came with an automatic because the t5 could not stand up to the torque. just interested to know if it came that way??
thanks

^I hear people telling me that ALL THE TIME.. and you know whats funny? I have a friend that has a absolutely fully optioned '87 1LE IROC that has a STANDARD 5spd. An old woman was the original owner, so dont try saying she swapped it in ;)

my car was origanally an auto but i think the guy that bought it new had the dealer put in a t5, at least that is what i was told. im pretty sure the t5 weren't made for 350 casue the tranny will make a wineding noise all the time and will get louder at higher rpms, im not sure though if it was like that even when it was new?

That post is so rediculous it almost has to be a troll....

1. 1LE was not available until 1988, in 1988 only 4 were built.

2. 1LE is a stripped down car to be used for SCCA etc..., no a/c, no radio,
no fog lamps, no power options at all.(so fully loaded 1LE says BS right
there)

3. 1LE cars were available with a 5 speed yes, but only on LB9 cars.

4. The reason 1LE's are so few and far between is because hardly anyone
knew of them at the time (with the exception of the 1LE/B4C that was for
highway patrol use) so why would an old lady have one.

Go to Thirdgen.org and do a search, there have been many threads about it. Theres a member there by the name of John Millican (IIRC) that does the machining on them to get them to bolt up. If your gonna do the swap snoop around on the lt1/lt4 board and find a decent cam profile to match the intake.

Whoa.. are you positive on this info? My friend has even ran his VIN and it said he has all that stuff.
His IROC has power everything, AC, 16" 245x10 rims, 350 TPI, 5spd, fog lamsp, 4 wheel disk, stock extended-sound stereo, clock in the center console, a flashlight w/ "Camaro" engraved on it (it goes in the center console on a mount of some sort), a compass (I think it is..) on the center top by the t-tops, a holster up there, lights, a 145mph spedo, a 1" rear sway-bar, posi rear-end with some f*cked up gear ratio like 3:27 or something (he checked the vin and it said it was right). The car is black on black.
I am REALLY confused on this whole thing. I have had my friend check EVERYTHING out, and he says that the vin says exactly what he thought it did; everything checks out ok

Yea, I'm sure, with all that stuff your buddy does no doubt have a very nice 3rd gen, but not a 1LE. A 1LE can't be determined by the vin, only the rpo codes. The rpo sticker (if its still there) will be in either the center console, or that locking glove box thingy in the rear. I think hes possibly confusing the G92 performance options with the 1LE. I still call BS on the original 5spd/L98, and the RPO's will show for sure one way or the other on that as well. If you can take a pic of the rpo sticker or get the codes and post them here. TGO has an rpo decoder I can plug em into an he'll know exactly what hes got. Also if you have any pics of the car post em up too, sounds like a killer ride. If your unsure of what the RPO sticker is let me know and I'll post up the pic I took of mine so you know what your lookin for.

EDIT - Nevermind, I don't have a pic of my RPO sticker, but it will just be a white sticker with a whole bunch of codes on it. All the codes will be 3 characters each, a combination of letters and numbers.

Hm.. the RPO *should* still be there, but I'm not sure.
And yes, this car is insanely nice and insanely fast. Nevermind the 383+ATI s/c he's got in it, the true beauty is the ALL Hotchkiss and BMR red-powdercoat suspension pieces and underbody he's got.
I can try to get pics, I will have to get a cam and find time first. I dont go to the cars very often (it's a long ways away and I've been really busy w/ school, etc..)

How do u think it is a 1le if it has Hotchkiss suspension parts? Its so easy 2 tell if it is a 1le or not.Unless no RPO codes

 He is putting the Hotchkiss and BMR parts in this entire winter. Their not from the factory ;) :)
But like I said before, his car is about 40-minutes away from my house, and I have been too busy to get down there to work on my car (they are parked side-by-side in a garage) but when I *do* get down there I will try to get the codes :D
