what are the gains of doing this, whats negative about it? They don't emissions test in IN so I'm ok. Will I make more power and most importantly how will it sound?

It will sound horrible unless you put a pipe through it and weld it back together. I did it on my old 95 T/A, the whole turbulence in the emty cat sounded horrible.

You're not going to get much out of it at all. I had a cut out on my other car, and then one of the cats broke so I gutted it. All I got was a lot of nasty rasp. You're lucky you don't have emmissions laws...throw the cats out and get some long tubes!

sound prefs are like *******s, everyone has em. i like my car with the cats gutted, i went from 13.0 @ 108 to 12.8 @ 109 by gutting my cats. and my last car picked up 1/10th as well and about a mile an hour as well. the only problem you should run into is the ses light, if you dont already have it on, or if it bugs you get some o2 simms @ thunderracing.com , good luck:)

I have my cats gutted and a cutout. It's loud but it does have a real raspy tone, Does It sound a whole lot different with a pipe inside of it, is it worth pulling them off again a doin' it. Also I have had some conserns about having NO back pressure, I think with just bolt on your Ok but if you get into head and cams, or supercharger it causes problems because it sucks fuel through the exhaust valves, Anyone know for sure?

Hollow cats ruin the sound of your car. If you want the flow without getting a crappy sound you need an ORP. The ORP, although not great for your exhaust sound, is not nearly as bad as gutted cats. Don't know why, but that's how it is.

Off Road Pipe.
It is a Y-pipe without cats that replaces the car's original Y-pipe with the cats.

go with the offroad pipe, just cut out the cats and put a straight pipe in their place.... with gutted cats you get a lot of turbulence because it's not straight through, so it hurts your exhaust flow. it's gonna be raspy either way, straight pipe or gutted cat, but supposedly it sounds really nasty with empty cats.
