My tranny is currently getting rebuilt, and they advised to not put in a aftermarket torque converter because it could cause problems, and said to wait for the tranny to break in. Is there any reason to do that and wait? What if there is debris in the TC?

Tell them to stop what they're doing, and take it to someone who knows what they are talking about. :)

Also have a look at www.cahallperformancetransmission.com - my trans is getting back from him tomorrow. He has an awesome reputation and is a very nice/helpful guy to deal with.
I wouldn't waste my time with someone that doesn't know the 4L60E in and out, because to me, that spells failure.

your link didn't work, try this one http://www.cahallperformancetransmissions.com/ there is an 's' in it...
I tried to tell Frank that that was a long URL, :)
Hope you enjoy the new tranny and converter...
mustangmuncher - who is doing your tranny? What are they doing? if it is a local shop doing a stock rebuild then you may still run into troubles with it. AA lot of shops just put in what is recommended from the factory and those items have the same faults as the stock tranny making them just as weak...

Okay, well I got the car back today, the tranny is as better than it ever was before. For 1000 dollars He took the tranny out of the car, rebuilt it and put it back in. He said he put in an updated valvebody, the z-pak, shift kit, etc.. The car shifts nice and firmly, and no delays etc. We will see how it holds up, and if the weather holds out for Sunday, I will finally get some new times at the track!

I guess it pays to know people.

Did that 1200 include pulling the tranny out of the car and reinstalling it?
