91 Camaro RS 09-22-2005, 03:31 PM Whenever I turn left hard I hear a metal scraping sound from the passenger side of the car. I've looked and I cannot figure out what it is. When I rotated the tires a while back I looked then too (thinking maybe a tire was scraping something) and also didn't see anything. This ONLY happens when I turn left, I can turn right as hard as I want all day long and won't here a sound. I've tried to figure out whether it's coming from the front or the back, but I just cannot tell for sure. Does anyone have any ideas of what I should check?

Dave89IROC 09-27-2005, 12:03 PM make sure your wheel bearings on the left front are tight
91 Camaro RS 09-27-2005, 12:40 PM Could that really be the problem? I heard the sound twice today in places that I didn't before.
Dave89IROC 09-27-2005, 05:53 PM if loose, it can cause contact between the rotor and something else(havent looked in a while, so the loose bearing is not what is making the noise, but it is the reason
so check it :)
91 Camaro RS 09-27-2005, 06:09 PM I took both front wheels off and checked the grease as well, and it's all fine (put more grease in it just to be safe). Went for a test drive, and it still makes the sound.
I wish there was a place I could safely mount my camera to where it could see under the car to I can see if something visible is scraping.
91 Camaro RS 09-27-2005, 09:39 PM Alright, well I decided I'd at least try mounting my camera, and wouldn't ya know.. it worked! Sorry about it being dark, I had the camera on the driver side in front of the front wheel pointed under the car to look at that black piece of plastic (in case it was that), the sound isn't that, but you can clearly hear the sound I'm talking about. The video is 1.5mb.

Dave89IROC 09-27-2005, 10:10 PM that sounds like something dragging on the ground......anything on the exhaust loose?, close to the driveshaft or anything?
91 Camaro RS 09-27-2005, 10:16 PM The exhaust was the first thing I checked, and I didn't notice anything lose. As far as I can tell, thee exhaust is all stock until the muffler.
Dave89IROC 09-27-2005, 10:23 PM hmmm.........anything loose near the rotors/drums? or anywhere near the wheels for that matter?
91 Camaro RS 09-27-2005, 10:28 PM When I took the front wheels off earlier, I looked and there was nothing. I did look around the rear wheels and didn't see anything there either.
Dave89IROC 09-27-2005, 10:53 PM hmmm......
91 Camaro RS 09-28-2005, 11:46 AM Well, I mounted my camera in a few different places, and I'm 75% sure it's coming from the front. I don't know if I got anything with the camera though, I have to get it to my computer and I'll post it later.
dacook 09-28-2005, 02:12 PM I really hope you find it because my '02 Camaro does the same thing. On mine it sounds like the right rear, though. Scraping/rattling sort of sound only when turning left. I can't find it either. Weird.
91 Camaro RS 09-28-2005, 02:24 PM Here's the new video.
http://dsites.net/junk/s2.mov (38mb)
First shot the camera was on the middle of the rear bumper pointing at the passenger rear wheel, the second shot was on the passenger side, and the third shot was behind the passenger side wheel pointing forward.
91 Camaro RS 10-02-2005, 05:00 PM Today I took my dad for a ride to show him the sound, and we put the car up on ramps and got under it and looked and saw nothing wrong, nothing lose, scratched up, etc. Then he just jacked up the passenger front wheel and had me crank it up and turn the wheel so he could see it moving, and still didn't see anything.
