98 Y87 Big Issues

alright, good news and news that makes me suicidal. I had my good friends brother change my plugs and wires last night, $50 is what he asked. There were some wires crossed so he fixed that, but now it seems like it runs worse! Now when it idles its like a gurgle or pop sound. We got it scanned and #5 and #6 miss like a bitch, #2 seldomely misses. However that plug on #2, the tip looks messed, so I bought another plug and hopefully that will take care of that. The rest are fine, but thats the only thing that showed when we scanned it, about an hour ago.

I had an appointment down at this local garage, theyre good, on Friday for plug and wire change. I went down and told them to forget it and to just look at it and figure out wtf is going on, I told them I want #2 plug changed and to figure out why, if they can, #5 and #6 are missing so bad.. and why its running so bad. Almost seems worst than before, I am not driving it anywhere unless I really have to. You should hear this thing guys, its sad.

I thought it could be something with the gaps.. but why only 5 and 6? Doesnt make sense. They are the NKG Iridium IX TR55IX plugs, it says to not regap them. Shouldnt the old plugs be gapped at 0.060? They were the old stock OEM ones, but I think those were Iridium also so 0.060 sounds right. It is just weird that it SEEMS like the misfiring is gone, but its still running like such crap that it doesnt even matter because you couldn't tell if youve heard it for the first time.. still runs bad and theres new symptoms to boot. :mad:

All i can think of is make sure the wires are going to the correct cylinder. Also did you change the spark plug wires. If you did what kind did you use and if you didnt how long has it been since you have.

But other than that i really dont know much about V6's. So. IDk.

I think they are the stock OEM wires, but they are new. I bought them at Autozone. We changed them with the plugs. We checked the firing order and made sure the wires were where they needed to be, also the coil packs were checked they were fine. The only codes on the scanner, I think, were that #5 and #6 were missing real bad.. and by that I mean A LOT of misfires. A compression test should be done I think.

Luckily I have an appointment tomorrow morning to get it checked out, I hope they find something or fix me up. Since they said drop it off in the morning so the engine is cool Im going to leave them a note to remind them what I had found.

ok, had the car worked on today and wires 1 and 3 were crossed. thats why it was running worse then before the plugs/wire change. however 5 and 6 were still missing. it would miss above 1200rpm but at idle and if you revved it then let off, it would misfire and want to stall. some fuel regulator thing could be the problem, or the vacuum hose thats not supposed to have fuel in it was soaked in fuel. I guess that not so good, and that was why it was starting hard.

They said they ordered the part and it would be here Monday, so I just left the car there. They said it would be a real hard time changing that out because it looks like all 1 piece.. hopefully Monday I have my car back and running :o and my wallet wont be hurting since it might be hell changing that fuel regulator hose thingymabob out of there :rolleyes:.. meaning more time and money. 58/hour compared to some places around isnt so bad though.
