What Gen Camaro makes your feel the most warm and fuzzy?

This one should be exciting :)

For some reason when I think of the Camaro's best days I think of IROC-Z's. To me the First Gens are cool, but I have never really seen them enough to be attached...plus they were only made three years. The Second Gen Camaro IMO was probaly the ugliest gen...plus the Firebird kinda stole the show these years. As for the 3rd Gen...I grew up with these cars around...and they were always must haves. I remember as a kid...IROC-Z's were the cars every one drooled over. Something about the stance and the ground effects. They just has so much personality. As for the 4th Gen, in terms of performance...they are likely's the best Camaro's ever...however for me they seemed to loose some personality? I still love them...but they just never had the  factor of a nice 3rd Gen. I hope the mullet stigma fades away though

If I remember right...I think someone mentioned a while back that they put pictures of a Camaro from each of the 35 model years up, and asked people in a clinc to choose the one they though that best personified what a Camaro should be...and the most popular one was an 85 IROC-Z.

As much as I love the 91-92 Z's. my favorite Camaro is the 4th gen SS. To me that car has the best look of ANY generation (so far). In fact, I like them so much that I am currently contemplating picking up an 02 SS. (I am having a hell of a time waiting for 0x, and besides, who says I can't have 2 of them! )

I said fourth gen, but only the 96 Camaro Z28/SS. I love the 94-96 dash over the 97+, and the LT1's look meaner (personal opinion)

First Gen, I owned a '69 Firebird, but my Dad ordered a '68 SS/325 New...Corvette Bronze, black interior, black bumble-bee stripe going across the nose down to a point in the middle of each door, chrome SS grills in the hood, hurst 4 spd muncie trans...man that car was fast!..after a little tweaking. ;)
The G's that thing could pull in a straight line, with the front off the ground!..

When I was a little kid I can remember the 91-92 Z28's being so cool...ever since then I wanted one of them.

I almost bought one, and I wish I would have over my LT1... :(

Third gen, hands down. My '89 RS was without a doubt a more attractive car than my Z. The handling, the style, the attitude of a third gen make it #1 to me. It didn't matter that my RS only made 135hp...the stance was right, the look was right, hell...if the stupid thing had a 305 in it, I'd still have it now and never would have bought my Z!!

To me, it was 2 cylinders short of perfection. I love that car...I miss that car. And without a doubt, I will have another...

Tough poll. There's good stuff in there for all four gens but 'warm and fuzzy' for me and it's a tough call, is the third gen 87-90 IROC. The fourth gen was better screwed together and had (much) more desireable engines, but they don't necessarily say Camaro (to me) like those 87-90 cars.

But, given the choice to buy in a push comes to shove way, I couldn't help but get all giddy over a late LT1 or LS1 (here though I could go for either Camaro or TA) - despite how I voted. As far as second gen goes, for me, the TA had it all over the Camaro - no ifs-ands-or-buts.

But, yeah its the third gen for warm and fuzzy. I was just flipping through an old mag (1LE article I just can't bring myself to get rid of...) and the IROCs therein just looked so..... Camaro... I couldn't help but smile.

Third gen, definitely my favorite Camaros. They are the ones that got me hooked on F-bodies in general. The The 87-90 IROCs and 91-92 Z/28s are the best looking Camaros IMO, and you can't beat the sound of the L98. I'd probably have one for a daily driver if gas wasn't so high..

I was a second Gen guy at heart (think split bumper) until I took a good look at my Camaro next to my Subaru and a buddys Mustang GT. The 4th Gen's Style is aging like a good wine to me. I picked the ls1 4th Gen as my pick.

I love the 4th gens, but you can't beat the sexy curves of the first three years of the second gens. Combine the RS package with either the SS or Z/28, the lip spolier and wrap around rear spoiler, and that's the last car I'll ever need.

Along with my 4th gen of course....

My fourth gen when I turn on the heat, duh.

I'll always love the third-gens, my 91 was my first true love.

Only camaro's i don't feel fuzzy about are late 70's.

I'll take an 88-90 IROC any day of the week over any other generation. Those are the hottest looking cars on the road. Each time I see one on the street I always have to check it out.

Fourth gen.

We just finished our 11 day, 5,000 mile, 3 province, 9 state, round trip to a wedding in Edmonton and the Camaro/Firebird gathering in Bowling Green, more than 1/2 of it top down. 6 years and almost 70,000 miles later, we are enjoying the SS more than ever. :)

1st gen - cool, but they didn't call it camaro craft for nothing.

2nd gen - the best, up until about 1973 or 74 ,although there are a few 1980ish cars that I kinda like, however a 70-1/2 to 71 or 72 Z/28 is friggin sweeeeeet. Firebirds until 75 and up, especially a formula 400 with that twin snorkel hood, yummy.

3rd gen, I wouldn't pull out my you know what to save one from burining down. Had I never had an encounter with a 86 IROC, I might be kinder. although I did like the last of the 3rd gen firebirds (well okay, the 3rd gen did have one bright spot with the turbo V6 anniversary pontiac)

4th gen, LT-1 was cool, much respect for the LS-1 cars, just not my cup of tea visually.

See sig

1st gens- meh, See one, seen 'em all. They're everywhere at car shows and I don't give a second look usually.

2nd gen- 70-73 love the curves

3rd gen-Later model Irocs and Z28's are sweet. The convetibles are nice cruisers. They're still trying to pull out of the redneck scene though.

4th gen- as ordinary as a mustang unless it's an SS. 96-97 SS definatley the best looking 4th gen, actually maybe even the top of my list for looks.

First gen. Without a doubt the most beautiful and classic (as in timeless, not just old) of all Camaros. The '67s doubly so.

I've never owned one or even ridden inside one. But from what I've seen of them in original form, no other Camaro can stand on level ground next to a '67 in the looks dept.

1st gen's could have had it if there were more around.

2nd gen's - Hardly ever see one, and when I do they usually arent a nice early 70s version

3rd gen's - Grew up loving them, started driving with them, will always want one

4th gen's - Not my first choice, but so easy to go fast in a daily driver.

3rd gen without a doubt!!!!!!!!!

my first car(which is still in my garage) was an 86 Z28 black/red stripe/ silver with oxblood/black interior. it was a VIN-G 305cid with a 700r4(both of those are LOOOOOOOOONG gone now) it only had 36,00 miles on it the day i bought it(58,000 on the speedo right now, 100 or so of that on the 383 and beefed up 700 in there now). i love that car. i will NEVER get rid of it. my 4th gen is a monster but my 86 will always be cooler. i grew up around Fox body 5.SLOWS and IROC Zs and it totally had an effect on how much i love cars today. i got respect for 1st and 2nd gens, but i would take a 3rd gen Z28 or IROC over them ANYDAY!!!!!!!! :D

Owning nothing but 3rd gens right now, an IROC and a GTA, I can see why some say 3rd gen. The styling of the 3rd gen goes back to the 1st gen roots for cues.
The blacked out rear facia, and grilled tail-lights.
The wider stance and longer hood with grills in it.
But it also went the way of a lot of cusomizers at the time, lowering the stance, monochromatic paint, molded front and rear bumpers, and graphics, large alloy wheels(@ the time). And then you had the NASCAR influence. The lowered spindles, ground effects, low pro tires, full instrumentation, oversized sway bars, strut suspension etc...
The the Revolutionary TPI set up(then), looked like it belonged on a space shuttle.. :D

I have to say, it's a very close 2nd or toss up...

There's just that feeling you get when driving a 1st gen tho, hard to describe..
(Especially when powered by a BIG rumbling 396!)

Personally I don't know why eveyone has this fascination with old things. My marketing friend opined a few years ago it was because after 9/11, the recent recession and other events people more than ever wanted to be around familiar things or thing things that reminded them of the old days when things were (supposedly) better. You all want the equivilent of comfort food, which is great except with cars and some other things you're stuck with that $20K-$30K comfort food for 5+ years.

Why do people buy so many Mustangs? 1.), they always have for the past 10 years as the performance coupe market softened, 2.) it's the only kid on the playground, 3.) 'Mustang' is such a big part of Americana it could pull off this silly stunt. I honestly don't know if 'Camaro' could (personal convictions aside).

I'll buy all that. My personaly problem with retro is that it's like listening to a cover band. It sounds all nice and that but the magic that made the original isn't there. Alot of people are like "It's a great looking car but I can't help but feel like we've been here before."

Looking backwards doesn't solve todays or tomorrows problem. Retro doesn't deliver the same 'wow' factor that new, innovative designs do. When the next styling/design breakthrough trend hits it big, how stupid will it look to be in a new cars that looks 40 years old?

The retro fad is close to 10 years old. The time is ripe for a bold company to deliver fresh design that'll know our socks off.

I used to own a 69 RS/Z28, Cortez Silver, Red Std interior, black stipes and vinyl top and I really really miss that car. I wish I had the funds to buy that car back and know its somewhere in Ohio. So recently I had the thought of getting a 91 or 92 Z28, paint it cortez silver, red interior, black stipes, and put the 69 Z/28 embles on it and give it some nostsalga. Maybe I'll try to put hidden headlights on it to make it a rally sport :)

For me it's the 68's specifically! I will never get tired of the timeless look of them, they are IMO the 55-57's Chevy's of the 60's (67-69's), classic, clean style, that myself and many others will never tire of. :D Then it's the early second gens like my 73 Z/28, not nearly as popular as the 1st gens, but still very nice, and tough looking musclecars cars. Some of the later 2nd gens are nice too when done right. After that, I like the last of the breed, wether its the 93-97's or the 98-02's, and finally the 3rd gens! Yes 3rd gens, are at the bottom of my list for Camaro. Either way, all gens give me that warm & fuzzy feeling, when done up nicely, including the 3rd gens! I also agree with the theory that, ppl want to be brought back to what in their minds, was a better, simpler time. And I don't think that will ever change, just look at how many ppl here are hot for the 3rd gens. That is what they/we remember, they will one day look back, and long for another 3rd gen, and the same goes for 4th gens. And the 5th gen, when it comes out will be remembered fondly by that next generation, who has visions from their youth, day dreaming about them, just as many of us recall the 1st gens. Man I miss my 68 too, it was like my baby. :( One day I hope to have one of every generation!

The retro fad is close to 10 years old. The time is ripe for a bold company to deliver fresh design that'll know our socks off. I don't think "retro" is the right word here, it's "Nostalgia"...just the very NAME "Mustang" carries lots of fond memories, and street earned respect.
I believe the SAME can be said for "Camaro", it's like the Yin and the Yang, one doesn't have a full effect w/o the other...or one isn't fully appreciated w/o it's rival.
I think when or if the Camaro comes back it will boost Mustang sales as well, the same goes for a presence of the new Mustang selling Camaro's if they were made now.
As said many times, unless they have enough "CUES" to visually tie the 5th gen to it's ancestors, it won't have the impact it's looking for...

I love all Camaro's (actually all F-Bodies for that matter).

I remember when the '82 Camaro first came out. I did not know what to think. Did not think it could get any better than the '81. Wow!
My mom bought a '84 Sport Coupe which latter became my first car.
While abusing it in high school, I dreamed of owning a new IROC.
In December '91 I bought my first (and only to this point) new car.
Black '91 Z28. Should have never let her go.
I love the power of my '94 and want a '01 or '02 SS so BAD.
But, the looks of the fourth gen just were not as mean as the third.
My current '91 is beautiful but will never live up to my first '91.
In my opinion the '91-92 Z28's are the meanest looking car and the ultimate in Camaro looks. Especially in black.

In my opinion the '91-92 Z28's are the meanest looking car and the ultimate in Camaro looks. Especially in black.

I saw a black one in Montgomery, NY. The only other 91/92 Z28 I've ever seen on the road. Almost made me want to repaint my car.

I've had many of all gens. I love 1st gens, like 2nd gens. and really never liked 3rd gens.I'm a 4th gen believer tho,I think its the most rounded as far as straight line, corner and all around perfromance.

well, if we are talking about performance of course i'd go with the LS1 4th gen.. but i was ranking it based on exterior styling ;)

That's a tough choice. How about 1st, 3rd and 4th gen..

I have owned a 3rd gen. It was a 91 Z28 with the 5.7, leather. God I loved that car, wish I never would have sold it. I also currently own a 4th gen. I really love my 97 as well, and I have learned my lesson on selling these cars. Just going to hang on to it. I might just end up needing a big ol' garage for all the cars.

If I had to choose and buy another camaro today, it would probably be another 91 - 92 Z28 or late 80's IROC. I have a deep attachment to the car I grew up with. Waiting on the 1st gen until I have time to restore a car.

well.......interesting poll. I've owned every generation....drove many many many 2nd 3rd and 4th gens as company cars.

Loved the look of the 1969 RS/SS or Z/28 RS.....but while I love the look of them, driving them today is another thing altogether. They were ahead of their time in both ride and handling....but they're primitive.

Second gen......wow....talk about a polarizing style. If we had enthusiasts back in 1970, I suspect that some people at GM would have had death threats. You either loved them or hated them. Period. But it grew on people.....and we sold TONS of 'em. I loved them then and I love 'em now. A 1971 Z28/RS is just killer looking. Best year for Camaro? 1979 with over 282,000 of them sold.....second best year? 1978....272,000! I have many fond memories of several late 2nd gen Z28s....and my first "new" Camaro.....bought it while in college on a balloon note. 1973 Type LT 'cause my father (rightfully so) didn't trust me with a Z28. (something about me drag racing his SS-454 Demo one weekend.....)

Third Gen.......I nearly fell over the first time I saw one in Detroit behind closed doors. couldn't believe it! No question that they turned heads..esp. when they came out in 1982. Again, many fond memories of many Z28s during those years. (was cleaning out files the other day in my office and came across some old invoices of my company cars in 1989 thru 1991......was like a walk down memory lane....) Favorite one? A 1992 Z28 Convert....25th Anny ...White with Red Stripes and Red Leather interior...many fun nights cruising on Long Beach Island while on vacation that summer........

Fourth Gen.........who can forget the sound of an LT1? The 1993 Indy 500 Pace car is, in my book, the most striking Camaro in terms of overall appearance. But then SLP took a great car and made it better with the SS......loved the 30th Anny cars........the consumate Camaro colors..esp. with Houndstooth interior. The Berger Cars. The Tom Henry Cars. The Dale Earnhart cars...........

Lotsa choices....but in the final analysis? The 2002 Camaro SS with SLP Bilstein and 345 hp package......best quality in 35 years....great fuel economy....

........well..........OK..........mebbe a ZL1........nothing sounds better than an LS1 with the chambered exhaust.....and the Penske Adjustable Suspension....

or......perhaps the Harrell Camaros........

never an easy choice to pick your favorite.

The only bad years were 74-77 with asthmatic V8s and those big ugly chrome bumpers. :D

and they weren't even chrome. they were extruded aluminum and then polished! That said, I think they were, considering the tough bumper impact standards, relatively nicely executed (that doesn't sound right...)

Scott,

I look forward to living these memories with my son, 20 years from now talking about the day we bought the tricked out (insert fire breathing Camaro model here), and the impact it will have on him growing up. I think that this, as much as anything else about these cars, defines why we are passionate about them. They create emotion, or perhaps embody it, and that is what seperates them from oridary cars. Long Live the Camaro! May she enjoy another 35 (or more this time) year run!!

Don't forget the 30th anniversary cars with the LT4's. I will oneday build myself a replica of that one. My future collection will include:

1969 ZL-1 replica
1970 LT-2 454 (the 454 only made it into one car from the factory and the LT-2 never made it at all as far as I know but this should have been the successor to the ZL-1)
1992 25th anniversary collectors edition ;) (only 2 of these were made)
1997 3th anniversary LT4
2002 ZL-1 (would do the Harrell edition but I think the body work would get really expensive and the engine for the ZL-1 will already cost an arm and a leg)

edit: and how can I forget my 5th gen with a LS7 perhaps?

IMO, 3rd Gen Camaro 'verts are one of the best looking convertibles ever made. If I ever wanted a one, I'd definitely look for a 3rd Gen first.

1970 and 71 were the last of the 300+hp engines. They really stood out as unique in those years with their euro inspired designed.

That's my vote as well.

And, to me, I loved the 1st gen BBC - true dual, exhaust note, best, especially cammed.

Well Scott said it for me as well. I have owned all 4 generations and more than one of each but one. I had 1 first gen 3 3rd gens and 5 4th gens and what did I like best. My 89 Iroc 350 and my 2001 SS vert in SOM

I've always like the 67 to 68 1st Gens. Being the wierdo that I am, I never liked the 69. I thought it looked bloated compared to the 68 or 67 with its wider body style and just something about it did not appeal to me. I loved the early second gens. The Open mouth, split bumper RS/Z-28's are my favorite of the second gens.

For third gens, the Camaro's did not appeal to me all that much, they were fine cars but I liked the 3rd Gen firebirds more than their bowtie brethern.

Finally the 4th Gen. I loved them all, but I especially loved the 98+ 4th Gen Camaros. I loved the restyled look and I loved the cars power and etc. I love that cockpit feeling and being raised on a farm and riding in rough farm equipment all the time, the "harsh" ride some complained about was smooth as silk to me lol.

First Choice - 68' RS w/ a screamin 327 and 4-spd with all of the ORIGINAL guages. That light blue color w/ white bumblebee stripe (just around the hood not down the side of the car) and white interior. Lowered 1.5" or so nice stance w/ great wheels and huge brakes/calipers. This is what I'm building when I graduate.

2nd choice. What's in my sig. My 94. 383 LT1 putting out 400rwhp to the ground, built 6spd, 12 bolt, PERFECT red/black top paint, perfect custom leather interrior including headliner/middle console (would put an Aston Martin to shame), some great looking 18" wheels with at least 275's all around preferably 315ish out back with huge baer brakes seen through the wheels.

3rd; 91-92 Z28 350TPI, auto, black w/ gray leather interrior.

4th; IROC white w/ tan/gold (whatever that color was) IROC badge and wheels.

5th; 70 1/2 Z28, Orange w/ white stripes

And that's just my Camaro Pics...

There is no better looking Camaro, or F-body for that matter, than an '85 IROC-Z in red.

Or the 87 in red/grey, loaded, and with the L98. The looks, sound, handling, and overall performance is the definition of Camaro and one of the funnest cars you can ever own.

IF I had to decide, here's how my list would be.

1.) 3rd gen v8 convertible (black on black preferably)
2.) any 91-92 v8 car due to the ground effects and refinement. They are the best looking of the 3rd gens in my book.
3.) a 67 Camaro, love the triangle windows and the key cylinder on the dash
4.) 70-73 something about the split bumper just looks MEAN
5.) 4th gen 01-02 in Sunset Orange Metallic with the RS ground Effects..

Interestingly enough, I happen to be fortunate enough to own the following :
1.) 89 Camaro RS Convertible Black/Black/Black
2.) 92 RS Purple Haze, Was a 3.1v6 when i got her, now its something entirely different.
3.) 01 Sunset orange metallic Z28 with the rs ground effects. Signed by Scott at G9 in atlanta last year.

I loke many ive read in this thread hope to own one of each body style. I perhaps am one of the many that like to have the basic design of the cars, but modifiy them to make them mine. So no pure restores for me. Im gonna make them unique.

Camaros to me, are my passion. I enjoy driving them, working on them, seeing them, riding in them.. etc. I dont know how or why i have such a love for these cars, but i do know that it only has gotten stronger with the years. Luckily Im still relativly young, (30) and have a wife who loves them too even if she doesnt like to drive them she loves to ride in them. I think overall though, the camaro is just as the name states.. a friend. more than that even, its a member of the family.

One time my wife told me that the only way my purple 92 would leave the family is if the hand of god came down and took it. I asked her what would she do if I were to sell the purple or the orange cars, and she said she'd leave me.. :) sooo.. :) im VERY lucky in these respects.

There is no better looking Camaro than the 70-73 models with the split front bumper. To me, that is the quintessential Camaro.
I think it would be hard to adopt those cues into a modern car, however.

'67-'68.

'70-'73 split bumper.

For me, its more like lust. Truly a hard call: they all do it (see sig), but some more than others. The '69 was/is my all time favorite (though I dont feel that way about the other 1st gens), followed by the 4th gen (specifically the 98-02 SS) then the 91-92 Z28 for 3rd gen. The "steel bumper" 2nd gen cars I like, but Im really starting to seriously consider buying a "rubber bumper" (78-81 Z28). I loved each gen, though when the 4th gen came out in 93, I really thought the Trans Am was better looking. It took a couple of months before the Camaro made my heartbeat quicken....

When I see a clean IROC, I can't help but get excited. By far my favorite Camaro. Sure, my LS1s were way faster, but there was a feeling that I never had like the one I did when I had my IROC... maybe it was just because I was in HS when I had my IROC :D

T-tops and a L98 are all you need to wear the mullet correctly! ;)

well i'm a little biased here but since i was 18 i was paying off my 98 v6 camaro, then in 2001 i had my y2k ss, and in 03 i got my 02 z28 so i'd have to say 4th gen :-D

As the owner of a 1999 Z28 I have to say I love the fourth gen.
But I was 16 years old in 1985 and when I first saw a brand new yellow
85 IROC-Z I thought that was the car to have so I must go with the third generation.

I voted 1st gen. IMO, no camaro can compete lookswise with clean, good looking '69 Camaro, whether it be Z28, SS, or an RS package (Im partial to the RS/Z28 package myself). I grew up loving 3rd gens (esp IROCs and 90-92 Z28s) and of course 4th gens as well (first camaro) but I think the first gen is a perfect representation of the Camaro. :thumb:

The only bad years were 74-77 with asthmatic V8s and those big ugly chrome bumpers. :D

I agree completely. 78-81 wasnt so bad. A good buddy of mine had an 81 Z28 for awhile and say what you will but that car turned heads everywhere. Black on black, 4 speed and a loud rumbly exhaust, that was a fun car to go cruising in or pick up the girls in. :D
