$148 for Swaybar Bushings

I took my car to Pep Boys, because its the closet thing near to me where i dont risk getting pulled over for expired tags.

On the phone i was told $48. I swore i heard that price. Then when i drop the car off tonight in a rush, i find out they want to add ' Miscellanous Shop Tool Uses ' and Alignment for putting them on and suddenly the price is $148. I only wanted to damn swaybars switched out, sh.it people!

But i guess id have to get an alignment done sooner or later. I paid $1,000 for my 89 Firebird Formula and so far ive spent over $500 on it just getting it insurance on it and this. I havent even gotten it inspected yet and i have a feeling my back tires are going to force me to have to buy new ones if i intend to pass. Please dont let anything else be wrong with this damn car, ugh!

Since when do general hand tools such as open end wrenches and socket wrenches needed to replace swaybar bushings count as miscellaneous tools! And an alignment to replace sway bar bushings seems unnecessary as well. Be cautious.

Precisely why I do all my own work.

I'll have to call them first thing in the morning and tell them to scrap the alignment and just switch out the swaybar bushings.

$148? Hell for that I would just buy a stronger swaybar (BMR or such) with new bushings & endlinks :o

my advice just take it and dont ever go to that shop again. in dealing with your tires, go to all your parts stores. talk to the clerks get buddy buddy with em, somebody knows somebody that works at a tire store/ tranny shop/ machine shop. get my drift. if a car guy likes you, his buddies will like you, and they will hook you up with good prices. i got a guy workin at o'reillys that has hooked me up with his tire guy, his exhaust guy, and his tranny guy. all giving me lower prices than normal. just keep it in mind

It's true! I got my Nitto NT555R put on and balanced for free. It would have cost me 10.95 a tire.

I got my MT Et Streets at cost because I know a guy who works at a wholesale tire place.

$148 would have bought you the parts and a tool set. With that and this site you could have done that project yourself easily. And there is no "alignment" or special tools involved.
At least you got a bit of an education, I guess...

Just the bushings? I got front and rear Poly bushings for $13 a set ($26 total). Took an hour to do front and rear as well. You got reamed, I'd definitely reccomend to check into stuff like that next time.
