81 Z28 beats Z06

Cayuga dragway
my car is the Z28 with just a little 327
the corvette club rented the track for 2 hours
I was there with a buddy of mine with the AMC
club who also rented some time and they also
had a test and tune. Well most of the vette guys
were snubing us so I told him to stick around after
they were done and I would show him what a fast gm was like
he actualy laghed at me he looked at my tires and said there was no way I would beat him on street tires and my car was too slow for him to wast his time hehehe. so he is running drag raidials im running a set of dunlop qualifier
gts 295/50/15 .lucky my he pulls up beside me in the staging lanes
hes not wearing a helmet so he isnt breaking into the 13 second braket
thats one of thier rules
wouldnt you know it he pulls a 14.1
luky for me i pulled a 13.3
he didn't come back hahaha

You know something's wrong when the guy with the Z06 knows he's not in the 13-second bracket.

He was most likely very aware he couldn't drive the thing.

Re: 81 Z28 beats Z06

Hey! I was there Saturday night!!! Your car is silver I think, right? Check out the pics of my car ... you may recognize it!

There were some REALLY cool 'Vettes there that night. One of them ran a ~9.20 @ ~150 mph! ('00 convertible). About half of the pack were Z06's, most were (just) C5's, as well as a C2 ('63~ish?), a C4 and a C6!

For some reason, my car and my buddy's '97 Z28 (m6) were running TERRIBLY! Probably the same reason that Z06 ran a 14? My best time was a 13.92 @ 105.6, yet look at the times in my sig ... those were all obtained at the same track, just in previous years??

Unfortunately, my other buddy blew the CV joint out of his Accord right off the line, and since my car and the '97 were running slow, we left early.

Good job pulling the low 13's with a 327 though!!

Well, I did hear quite a bit of "granny shifting" that night. Could explain a thing or two?!

For me personally, the worst part was nearly losing to a newer Grand Am (not Grand Prix) coupe!! He actually BEAT ME to the 1/8th mile mark, but about that point (the speeds on the timeslip show it) I finally started to pull on the guy and I passed him before the 1/4 mile mark, but I only ran a 14.0xx to his 14.3xx?!!?!? However, I was crossing around ~105 mph, and his car was something like ~95 or 97? (sorry, don't have the slip right in front of me ... I should throw it out by rights ).

NEXT YEAR, I swear, my car is going to hit 12's!!!! (I almost did it LAST year, and that was my goal for THIS year, but life sorta got in the way).

It sounds like there was major problems with track prep/temperature. If your stock times were 13.4 and your modded times were 13.0, I couldn't imagine making a 14 sec pass in an LS1 with 4.10s,lid,and a catback.

Actually, I'm back to 2.73's right now, but still, yeah, a little frustrating/disappointing?! Even with the 4.10's, clearly my car NEEDS A STALL!!!
