i have wondered this for years when i installed a pioneer mosfet cd player in my car. why the stock bose speaker cut out and sound raspy when the volume gets turned up alittle bit. i don't mean very loud either... i don;t drive the car often so thats why i haven't asked and speaker shops nor would i let any of them touch my car.

IIRC, Bose uses self-amplified speakers unlike everyone else that uses an amplifier in the tuner.

That's always the best cure.

Actually I never knew you could even run the Bose crap off of an aftermarket unit.

I don't know what the best way of handling this is, but the previous owner of my 94Z28 used an AudioLink PowerLink II in front of an aftermarket amplifier (which he removed with he sold me the car).
I've since removed it and gone back to a stock Bose subwoofer, but my OEM radio/CD player sux. I'm probably going to rip out all of the Bose components and go with aftermarket pieces instead.

Why? Just replace them with something decent. 2 pairs of coax 6.5"s can be as cheap as $140 depending on what you get, and even the bargain speakers like that will sound better than what you've got.

You know the Bose setup in your car consists of only 3 speakers, right? The two grills that are next to the back seats are covering an empty space.

i'm not into speaker stuff, plus my exhaust is so loud you can barely talk to the person next to you- haha. i was just curious..

when you order the car you could have the two rear speakers for the car. freind had a 96 rs and it had stock gm speakers in the back seats.

Things changed between 94 and 96.

Yep, 95 is when the change happened. And then it was 97 (although it may have been 96) when the 6 speaker system was used.

My 94 Bose system has two speakers in the front door and the subwoofer in the rear
