Painting new front bumper - fish eyes ? - pics.

I bought a new front bumper off of ebay. A company called autosdepo who has a very good reputation. I received the bumper in the mail, and broght it to the collision shop. They started painting and "fish eyes" were developing. This is a manufacturing error and not a painting error correct? The collision shop is a very good shop, they painted the side of my car and it came out perfect. Here are some pics.....

Autosdepo is sending me a new bumper, this probably wont happen with the second one right?

from the pics its hard to tell but doesn't look like fish eyes unless they used fisheye eliminater which will make it very orange peely,looks like they didn't sand the primer on the bumper if it came primed was it smooth when you got it? need more info on the bumper. :eek:

I dont thing they did a good job preppig it. Take it back and they should repaint it.

Fish eyes are ALWAYS due to oil or grime on the surface. If it wasn't prepped right or cleaned properly and there's oil anywhere on the surface, fish eyes are sure to develop.

They said they cleaned in multiple times. Ah well, a new bumper is actually on the way which is unprimed, unlike the 1st which was primed (company sent by accident). I suspect the collision shop will do a better job on a piece that they have to prime themselves.

That really has nothing to do with the company. That's in the painting... Fish-eye remover is definitely a must. Wether or not it was primed shouldn't matter. They can block it out and reprime it with their own stuff if the like.

take it from me i went to college and have worked in a paint shop for years its the prep and possibly the additives the paint shop used for starters they may have cleaned your bumper before painting it but if it was touched by hands it will leave fish eyes you have grease on your hands and when you touch something you leave a grease imprint (or a fingerprint)and when you paint over that you get a fish eye ....and make sure they use whats called a flex additive becuse you will get spider webs in the bumper without it and the bad thing is it will take 6months to a year for you to notice this because the paint doesnt fully hardend till them and when you drive it the bumper moves and then you get spider webs a trick that saves the body shop money and brings in repeat business.....just my 2 cents....ask any other body shop man he will tell you

a good quality 2 stage paint is flexible enough that you don't need to add flex. I also agree with them...that is not fisheyes. Looks like major orange peel wich could be the result of too low air pressure.
