SMUJeremy 08-30-2005, 11:54 AM Anti-lock brakes may function improperly. Also, Hyundai recalls Sonatas, Ford recalls Land Rovers
DETROIT (Reuters) - General Motors Corp. is recalling 804,000 full-size pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles because of potential brake problems, federal safety regulators said Tuesday.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said unwanted application of the antilock brake system in some vehicles can cause increased stopping distances during low-speed braking and may result in a crash.
Vehicles affected by the recall include the Chevrolet Avalanche and Silverado pickups and the Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe SUVs. The GMC Sierra pickup and Yukon and Yukon XL SUVs are also affected. All 804,000 vehicles trucks are from the 1999-2002 model years, NHTSA said.
GM, the world's largest automaker, had more vehicle recalls than any other manufacturer in the United States last year.
Separately, NHTSA said Hyundai Motor Co. Ltd. was recalling 36,000 of its Sonata cars from the 2006 model year because their front seat belts may interfere with the manual seat back recliner knob.
The seat belt may cause unexpected release of the front seat back recliner, potentially resulting in an injury to passengers, NHTSA said.
In a more limited safety action, the agency said Ford Motor Co.'s Land Rover unit was recalling 17,263 Land Rover LR3 SUVs to replace potentially defective fuel tanks. The vehicles are from the 2005 model year.

BigDarknFast 08-30-2005, 11:58 AM Just curious, what has this got to do with the 5Gen or future vehicles? Seems like this should post in the Lounge.
And for those concerned about GM having more recalls... might bear to keep in mind GM is also one of the largest producers (and innovators). It's a little dangerous being 'on point'.
Threxx 08-30-2005, 12:03 PM I think my Silverado had this problem but I was told, by the dealership, that told it was normal. If you were trying to slow down to come to a stop - but nowhere even remotely close to emergency braking levels, and you a small uneven bump in the road, the ABS system would freak out and cut your braking power to about 1/4 of what it was before... almost felt like you lost power brakes, and the only way to get them back was to let go of the brakes entirely and then reapply (hoping you wouldn't go over another bump), or just ride it out and hope you were able to stop in time before you went flying through the intersection or into the person's bumper who was in front of you.

It seems like a loose connection to me too, but I guess since a lot of the focus of this forum is GM's success in the market and ability to improve the quality and dependability of their vehicles (to stop alienating their customers), then recalls are a big focus. In fact such a big focus that more often I see recalls for competing manufacturers posted and then everyone has a big pow-wow saying "well see! foreign cars really are junk!"

Evilfrog 08-30-2005, 12:32 PM How is this 5th gen Camaro or Future vehicle related?
Chill dude, we post toyota recalls here too.

It's amazing how conveniently biased some people can be.

Previously you've posted with no problem in the above Toyota recall thread and a Prius recall thread just joining the party. Never stopped to complain that you felt it wasn't applicable to the forum. Yet somebody posts a recall in almost an identical format, but it's about GM and you complain that they shouldn't be posting that in this forum.
Wow...
Chrome383Z 08-30-2005, 01:05 PM It's amazing how conveniently biased some people can be.
It's a "GM" Website - WTF do you expect???
You don't go to a "BUSH" website when you are a Democrat now do you?
Yes, there is going to be bias, just the same on the other side. What's annoying is people complaining about this "bias".
This stuff has been really bad here lately. I think the Import lovers just get off trolling competitors websites or something... (Of coarse I'm sure we have idiots that do that at Import websites too - but I digress...)

I've been here long enough and owned enough domestic vehicles that you should know I'm not trolling. I typically present the devil's advocate view which due to the overexposure and heralding of domestics, usually tends to be for the other guys.
Regardless... complaining in giant bold letters that recall news doesn't belong in this forum when just a few weeks back the same guy was joining in the bashing of Toyota in a nearly identical Toyota recall thread without stopping to question the thread itself just shows the downright hypocracy that that much bias can create.
Darth Xed 08-30-2005, 01:09 PM Wait... here comes the anti-GM "circle jerk"
j/k... couldn't resist.
RussStang 08-30-2005, 01:59 PM It is pretty hypocritical tyat some of you bitch when a GM recall gets posts, but when another manufacturer has a recall it is group hugs for everyone.
Ken S 08-30-2005, 02:03 PM soo, anyone have any details on what exactly gets fixed/serviced in this recall?

Take it easy...I thought this was more of a Lounge topic, I didn't see the title of the forum had change to auto news, not a big deal, I deleted my post.
There is no hypocracy with pointing out that the media jumps all over GM recalls with front page headline for the littlest things while Toyota or Honda massive recalls for things like fires get back page.
How is a thread about hybrid technology (a growing future automotive technology) biased when compared with a thread about a brake recall  I don't care who has the recall if it isn't related to a new or future technology. It is about as dumb a posting a thread saying everyone should change their oil every XXXXmi.
This is also a GM fans site, so people here generally like GM vehicles better than other companies, otherwise they would be on another web site.

unless it is some thing new (like hybrids, or DoD, or 6-7-8 speed autos, or something crazy like catching on fire) or about the Corvette, Camaro, GTO, or any other V8 or RWD GM car recall post are pointless. Who cares if GM truck need a new seatbelt or Mazda SUVs stall or Honda minivans don't shift smoothly, or a light bulb burns out too soon.

That's why I have to wonder why a month or two ago you jumped right in and went right along with the thread that was specifically about Toyota recalling some of its trucks for a componant failure, yet in this thread you start whining in giant bold letters that this doesn't belong in this forum.
It's beyond obvious that unless you have selective memory to the point that you will approve a Toyota recall thread but whine about a GM recall thread.
Just admit you're biased and I'll be happy. Not really happy, but at least content.;)

90% of recall thread are pointless. You obviously have a Toyota biased. Sure I like GM, other than Ferrari they are my fav car co. but if some one posted a thread about a Kia head light recall I would have had the same feelings. There are hundreds of auto recalls and service bullitens every year, do you think we should have a thread on each one?
Did you read the article and notice it mentioned two other recalls? Hyundai is recalling 36,000 Sonatas due to front seat belts may interfere with the seat back recliner knob. Only 2006 models are affected. Ford reported it is recalling 17,263 Land Rover LR3 SUVs from the 2005 model year to replace potentially defective fuel tanks
I guess that means I'm Hyundai and Gas guzzler Land Rover SUV biased too right. But notice how on autonews sites you don't see a headline for hyundia or Land Rover, only GM. I'm just pointing out how the auto press makes a big deal out of GM recalls but down plays the imports.
