Torx bolts? Why?robvas 08-29-2005, 04:31 PM What's the point of using torx bolts on brake assemblies? Bert02SS 08-29-2005, 04:46 PM I believe the torx design mazimizes the tool-to-bolt contact, allowing more torque to be safely applied. pHEnomIC 08-29-2005, 04:55 PM They dont want the average person messing with anything there because the average person doesnt have the right bits :) MustangEater82 08-29-2005, 05:28 PM I'm sure there were hundreds of people out there that said. "DAMN, I need special dealer tools" and gave up and had the dealer do it. Bert02SS 08-29-2005, 05:33 PM I'm sure there were hundreds of people out there that said. "DAMN, I need special dealer tools" and gave up and had the dealer do it. Or, they went to Sears, Walmart, K-mart, Autozone, etc. and bought a set. Z95m6 08-29-2005, 05:40 PM What's the point of using torx bolts? Yeah tell me about it. When i was doing my cam install my buddies autozone torx bit just twisted instead of the cam retainer bolt. I had to drive out to walmart in the middle of the night to buy a complete Set of black and decker brand just to get the one torx bit i needed. I wish they just would of put a regular bolt in. flatlander757 08-29-2005, 05:42 PM I hate those stupid bolts... a regular hex bolt works fine! But I agree it is probably to keep idiots away + make money for dealers... 2000GTP 08-29-2005, 05:45 PM Yeah tell me about it. I am surprised they put them there. But usually they use them on seat belts, non-serviceable motors, ect., basically nothing they want tampered with easily. And you think it is bad to have to go to the store to buy Torx bits? When I was a tech. , there are actually Tork bits and recessed-Torx bits fasteners and I have never seen those at the local hardware store. I had to buy them from the Snap-On rep. for the usual rip-off price. JBird33 08-30-2005, 01:47 AM I am surprised they put them there. I usually modify those bolts to work with my regular Torx set, AKA take a punch to them and take the pin out ;) RobbyRob 08-30-2005, 02:00 AM They do that to piss you off!!!! camaroz28racer2 08-31-2005, 10:46 AM You talking about those "tamper-free" Torx that have the pin in the middle in addition to already bein a Torx pain in the ass? Paul N 08-31-2005, 02:57 PM The real reason as I was told many moons ago since they started using them for exterior trim like headlight bezzels and so on is because the robot that installs the screws cant hold a phillips or a flat. The screw is designed for ease of installation on the line whether a person controls the machine or a robot does it. Either way, the screw or bolt can be handled more easily. | ||
