heliskiier1 08-29-2005, 01:08 AM this board? a lot of people get screwed here...it's a clearing house of good and bad...you just gotta hope you get the good. none of the moderators (are there any?) are gonna give u the time of day. i've had good deals and bad from here.
buyer beware...there's just too many folks here and too little moderator oversite. they just put the warning out and they feel their hands are clean...
sad but true.

You make it sound like this site has a higher percentage of deals that have gone sideways than others. Got some data to back that up? Show me some numbers before you make such a broad statement. It can't be as bad as you make it sound, you are still looking to buy things from here.

Your comments are not only derogatory but also untrue.
The best that we can do is preach common sense, which people obviously don't think needs to be applied. What else can we do? You tell me. We cannot validate the offers and transactions made here because it is impossible. We cannot mediate bickering an arguing because it utterly pointless. We cannot tell who is right and who is wrong because we don't know the truth behind the deal and it wouldn't be fair to take sides. We provide a place for the deal to happen. It is up to the buyer and seller to go from there. No one is forcing anyone to make any deal here. Our hands ARE clean because our hands never get involved in the deal. When someone buys a piece of junk car through the autotrader site, whose fault is that? This is no different. Don't start blaming us for not doing anything when we are not at fault in the first place and second of all, there is not a thing we can do. We tell people the very best thing to do if a deal goes south, yet people don't follow through. Again, what more can we do?
If you have any suggestions on what we should do, start there. If you can come up with one that is a viable solution, we are all ears. Until then, perhaps you need to reevaluate your postion and ease up on the comments.

Not true. Is someone saying otherwise?

Huh??? That comment came right out of left field. It's completely untrue. Why would you say something like that.

i think it was a suggestion

Not the way it was phrased, but if that is the case...I suppose it makes more sense.
It is a decent idea, but I am not exactly sure how that would make things easier. It won't stop someone from offering a shady deal, not sending out a part, etc.
At least is is a suggestion to make things better. Most people bitch and whine but don't have any solutions.

not in the least, but I think it would discourage people from just registering, listing stuff for sale, and then ripping people off.
Then again, I'd like to think the community here would be smart enough not to just send money to someone who's been here 2 weeks and has 3 posts, all of them in the for sale section.

True, but it would also discourage honest people from selling as well. We have kicked around ideas like that before.

HA! I'd like to think a lot of things like that myself, but that would only be wishful thinking.
Evidently, people are indeed not smart enough and when it goes south, not only do they not have the ambition to make a direct and dilligent effort to get it resolved properly, but they think it is someone else's fault!:lol: ...

Maybe "Supporting Members" or members who have been here a certain amount of time/certain number of posts.
Truthfully, there's obviously no sure-fire way to eliminate people ripping others off. As long as there is a means (online forums) scammers will always find a way.
But maybe something like that could work, I dunno if it could be coded into the board though to be automatic, or how you would administrate it though. Might be kind of difficult

One the right track...sorta. :) The problem is you have to limit people...and not just certain people but everyone. Depsite the popular concensus , the percentage of deals going sideways is relatively small.
I just checked the last 500 threads in this forum. Out of those 500, only TWO were complaints. One boiled down to two people bickering because there was a miscommunication on the deal, and ther other was with the seller admitting fault for slow delivery and apologizing. In addition, there were also TWO "Great seller threads". Sometimes, the "bad seller posts are due to transactions that didn't even happen on this site, but people are simply warning others. So, are things REALLY that bad here or is the sky falling?

Sad but very true.

Yep...now you are thinking from our standpoint. It is not that we don't care...but the same questions returns again and again...What exactly can we do?
Another side...
There is also the aspect of providing a false sense of security. "Oh, I don't need to worry about sending the money in on the deal (that might be too good to be true). I'll just send it in and if I get ripped off, someone will jump in and fix it for me because it will be someone else's fault for not doing their job". That seems to already be happening. Not in a general sense, but we wouldn't want to promote that sort of mentality.
We never stop looking for a solution. Just haven't really found one yet.
rskrause 08-29-2005, 03:48 PM There is no solution, unfortunately. You can't legislate morality (in this case, honesty). Using common sense is nearly 100% when it comes to this stuff though. Most deals that go bad have "watch out" written all over them. As has been pointed out though, lack of common sense is common!
Besides trying to educate people who use the site to buy and sell, what about a feedback rating a la eBay? I have NO idea if this would be practical or not. But if it's easy, wouldn't that help? That system is far from perfect, but I think it's a big help.

Z95m6 08-29-2005, 04:52 PM I know this has been brought up before and i've read it but is it not possible to have a feedback system like ebay? I'm a member of LS1tech and am rarely there but on my last visit i just noticed they have a feedback system. There board is setup almost identical to this so it seems like it would be feasible, but i really know nothing about running a board or even a website.
badssz 09-01-2005, 12:18 AM Well, I was the one who posted the original thread - I was not looking for the administrators or anyone to actually do anything about it. All I intended to do is to bring it to light that I took it in the a$$ - and it hurt. I also just wanted to warn fellow board members so they do not fall in the same trap.
However - that being said, I would think that maybe since there are "administrators" here that when there are numerous threads and complaints from everyday board members(such as myself) against a specific member, it should be looked into.
"every day" board members such as myself, who buy and sell ocaisionally - and look to this site for info and advise are primarialy what makes this site.
I agree with the "buyer beware" but I don't think a seller who is constantly shafting board members should be given shelter of any kind.
Just my .02
sw89lt1 09-01-2005, 12:42 AM i got screwed on 3 out of the 3 deals i've done on this forum. 2 of them have over a 1000 posts. chevytuffD.A. said it was his brother was the one that sold me an intake with his user name. 95lt16spd just never sent me my cam. so some times even if the seller looks good you still get fu(ked. but it just the chance you take when buying something over the net.
