Is the China honeymoon coming to an end?Z284ever 08-29-2005, 10:02 AM http://www.detnews.com/2005/autosinsider/0508/28/B01-295057.htm LT1runner 08-29-2005, 11:17 AM Interesting read. TrackMagicWS6 08-29-2005, 11:29 AM wait wait wait, it says UAW workers make 130,000 a year, is that true? HAZ-Matt 08-29-2005, 11:37 AM Maybe, but there is no shortage of poor people in the world to work for slave wages. Jason E 08-29-2005, 11:58 AM wait wait wait, it says UAW workers make 130,000 a year, is that true? Don't forget that includes benefits...that's not just salary. But yes, the average salary of a UAW worker is probably somewhere between $60-80k...so while it isn't $130k, its still pretty damn good. FWIW, I really, REALLY want one of the people who knocked me for being irate over GM's decision to put a Chinese-built 3400 in the Equinox and Torrent to come up with an excuse now as to why GM had to do it. Cost savings, reliability, my a**. If it was because they had excess plant capacity, fine...but I gotta think they didn't need to ship those engines over here. The biggest reason my fiance's next car will be a G6 over a Torrent is not because of the cost difference, but the damn engine. Maybe I'm pigheaded, but I don't want my American Pontiac having a Chinese engine, thanks very much. Trim pieces, I can deal with...but the engine? For me, its just principal I guess... Chrome383Z 08-29-2005, 12:30 PM I don't totally agree with that article. For Wireing harnesses sure with all the changes it doesn't make sense to go to China under his circumstances. For Steel and other Heavy Industries China is still the place to be. We deal in Industrial Hydraulic products (German Owned) and have been in the States 10 years. We have only been in China 4 years and the sales last year surpassed the United States. Although, we did see a 15-20% increase in the US market as well. | ||
