91_z28_4me 08-27-2005, 04:05 PM Wanted to offer a review of a book, "Corvette C6", that I just picked up on C6 development. It is by Phil Bereg and is named Corvette C6. It gives some insight into the design evolution of the C6 and some of the big players involved.
There are pictures of sketches from the US, English, and Italy design studios that contributed to the C6. In addition I feel it gives insight into the time frame that goes into a new car, even one in total secrecy.
Examples C6 brainstorming begins in 1999, after the design studio finished with the XLR, which began in 1997 (just after the C5 launch). It is only 56 pages but it does contain quite a bit of eye candy. Also there is a specs section in the back with C6 specs and its major competitiors, Viper, 911 Carrera, and 360 Modena.
Excellent book, not as in depth as All Corvettes Are Red but still very much worth a look for $30.
Some of said eye candy:
What the C6 looked like for its last clinic

C5 with proposed C6 side parts outlined on it.

number77 08-27-2005, 05:55 PM Are there any hint pics of a 5th gen in the background pictures?

No but the VERY first thing I did was look through all the pictures and see what was in there. The Malibu Maxx is in the background on pave 47 though. Also what seems to be a very small compact truck exercise in the background on the second picture I posted, the tiny blue thing behind it is probably the top of the Vibe too.
Meccadeth 08-28-2005, 12:58 AM Wow...very interesting to see those pics. Could you imagine our excitment if we had actually seen those pics before the C6 came out?

JP2005 08-28-2005, 01:25 AM looks kinda like a beetle, but it is possible once a long front piece of a car is thrown on it
camarofan91 08-28-2005, 10:49 AM in the pic with the c5 with c6 body work, if you look over the rear window you can see what looks like the c5-r.
30thZ286speed 08-28-2005, 12:31 PM Great book, I picked it up last winter and started a thread on it, though the thread died an early death.

Another great new book I looked at Borders yesterday is called 50 years of Chevrolet Small Block V8s (or something close to that) Its pretty nice with lots of color pics. with detailed development history of the SBC. It covers everything from the first Chevy V8 back in the early 1900s that didn't survive to the LS2 & LS4, but it doesn't cover the LS7

guionM 08-28-2005, 02:30 PM There was a fantastic show on DTMS (some history channel on cable) that was all about the development of the C6.
What's even more amazing is that both times it showed yesterday, it was immediately followed by a program on the development of the Ford GT.
It's been on once again today, and I'm betting it will be on again later.
It's really facinating to see the difference in how Ford and GM developed their performance cars. The GT was developed basically under a pressure cooker by a pretty small team, but you felt the elation of the team when the car was unveiled and the praise for the car started rolling in. Meanwhile GM's C6 seemed to be highly managed, structured, and professional. And more time consuming.
Facinating shows if you catch them.

How does it show??
FutureZMan 08-28-2005, 10:17 PM How does it show??
sure as hell not in its frontal design :metal: thats one hot front end.
Some things look a little thrown together, but its a pretty good presentation for a car that was being developed "Under pressure".

I agree 100%. The Ford GT is a fine piece of engineering... but its price is so much higher than the C6 Z06 it's obscene. The C6's careful development shows... in its value price and in many other ways as well.
detltu 08-29-2005, 01:19 PM My GF bought that book for me last christmas. I really enjoyed it. I have never read All Corvettes are Red and have been meaning to. I'll have to get on that. Anyway a good book they need one for the Z06 now.

I wasn't going to say anything as I was trying not to ruin the surprise but you can't look at the picture and not have it scream Camaro at you. Not only that but I think it will probably be the most powerfull camaro ever.
