guionM 08-27-2005, 04:01 PM Every time I see a Acura TL, I see the a car that screams Pontiac from every pore. It's almost as if Acura took a look at the Bonneville's front end, and designed an entire car around it.
I look at a G6, and sure it looks nice. But it's a Chevrolet with a Pontiac nose! I love the GTO. But it looks like it should have a Chevrolet grille (it does outside of Australia & New Zealand).
The Solstice doesn't even look like a Pontiac (save the grille). But the Saturn Sky most certainly does.
I was wondering what cars do other people here see and think "That looks like something ****** would have made"
FutureZMan 08-27-2005, 04:04 PM Viper has always struck me as GM in design, besides there middle counsle in Gen 1.
2nd revision of the F4 Camaro, looked more like a DCX car.
Jeep, just looks like the whore of the autoworld :p as does hummer.
TrackMagicWS6 08-27-2005, 04:16 PM sky/solstice, Sky should have gone to Pontiac and solstice to Saturn
anasazi 08-27-2005, 04:36 PM mazda mp3 profile sort of looks like a GTO
might not be an mp3, i don't recall exactly which car it was.
turbo96z28 08-27-2005, 04:51 PM the older malibus (9*-02) always looked like they should have said honda on them. my dad has an 01 and my neighbor has an 02 accord and they look pretty close.
DrewSG 08-27-2005, 04:53 PM The entire Chevrolet line (sans Corvette of course), look like a goddamn Honda or Toyota line up.. So sad
The Corvette looks like it was made by the wrong company or division....
How do all the other chevies get dull or derivative styling but this one escapes it?
slayerxxx213 08-27-2005, 07:09 PM Since I first saw them I thought Pontiac should have gotten the Sky, and Saturn should have gotten the Solstice...I think the Solstice really looks a little to cute for either brand, but it's sort of cool looking.
Gloveperson 08-27-2005, 07:10 PM The new CLS is too sexy to be a benz...has to be a jaguar/aston martin under the skin
AdioSS 08-27-2005, 07:12 PM the Sky and Aura should have gone to Oldsmobile. No doubt about that...
I sometimes get the Cobalt mixed up with Honda Civics and Accords :(
HAZ-Matt 08-27-2005, 07:16 PM the Sky and Aura should have gone to Oldsmobile. No doubt about that...
Oldsmobile? Is that one of those new Korean brands? :)
turbo96z28 08-27-2005, 07:33 PM I sometimes get the Cobalt mixed up with Honda Civics and Accords :(
just the civics. come to think of it, the Scion almost looks like the Mercedes CLK???(you guys know which one i mean, small little hatchback one)
FutureZMan 08-27-2005, 07:40 PM Oldsmobile? Is that one of those new Korean brands? :)
Yes...Yes it is.
Yossarian14 08-28-2005, 01:04 AM Jeep, just looks like the whore of the autoworld :p as does hummer.
What are you talking about exactly?
Big Als Z 08-28-2005, 02:52 AM MB's CLS deffinatly looks non-german. Thank God for Italy.
VW Jetta looks like a Toyota Corolla.
Avalon was very Buick, and now the Camry has taken its role.
And of course...Ferrari 612 looks like a certain Chevy 2dr, 2+2 coupe that is near and dear to my heart.
FutureZMan 08-28-2005, 10:54 AM What are you talking about exactly?
Jeep has been owned by or tampered with by almost everyone of the big 3. Hummer is a contract, although im not sure if GM owns them outright now, but compare the Hummer when it was baseline, to the soccer mom hummers that exist now.
Pretty easy to see.
90 Z28SS 08-28-2005, 11:27 AM I always thought the Cobalts looked like a coupe that could come from VW . The wheel arches , the lower rocker area , the interior screams last gen Jetta .
On the outside the new Impala has pretty prevelent VW character .
The new Jetta on the other hand looks like a Toyota , new corolla neone .
Last gen (02-04) Audi A4 has strong pontiac cues in the front clip .
The LaCrosse could easily have a Hyundai badge attached to it .
Agree totally they got the brands crossed on the Sky and solstice . Once the newer saturns come out though , the sky will look right at home . As the rest of the Saturn line will be as striking .
rlchv70 08-28-2005, 12:53 PM Porsche Cayenne = Anything except Porsche!!
Chrysler 300 = Bentley (tho much cheaper)
Eric Bryant 08-28-2005, 01:12 PM Jeep has been owned by or tampered with by almost everyone of the big 3.
And yet the Wrangler has just about the strongest styling heritage of any vehicle on the road. So why do you say they "look like the whore of the autoworld"? That would imply that they've stolen their styling cues from someone else, when in reality the whole two-box SUV was co-invented by Jeep (Wagoneer) and GM (Suburban).

Well initially i was speaking of only the engine options from the past, but since we went here :p .
The wrangler is pretty good in the form of heritage, and well thats where all that ends...
Jeeps where once known for ruggid performance, and everything produced with jeep brand stamped on it is alot of things but none of those are ruggid.
the newer Jeep SUV's look more and more like MISC mercade SUV's, as well as share alot of the more undesirable traits of other DCX SUV's. I bought a wrangler brand new, after owning a 82 for about 3 years. that 82 was rightous let me tell ya. It was a 00', I took it off roading about 3 times, each time i found it in a DCX repair bay. In respect to my 82' which i would literally drive through a forest and walk away with no more then a scratch and missing a 1/4 tank of gas. hell even in respect to my present 1991 2500 silverado with 200,000 miles. Its far more durable then this "Heritage" inspired current wrangler.
Back to the point.
the Commanche wasnt a whore of Jeep back in its day? That was not a jeep in any facet other then Branding...
Jeeps where intended to be ruggid, the cherokee and liberty are far from ruggid.. This is all in respect of the company passing hands, and becoming the bastard son of the big 3.
could this be anymore brand whored? Jeep commander (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://forums.autoweek.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/31-13866-281987-5798/Jeep%2520Commander.jpg&imgrefurl=http://forums.autoweek.com/thread.jspa%3FforumID%3D31%26threadID%3D13866%26ts tart%3D-1&h=768&w=1024&sz=150&tbnid=YZGUK29UvA4J:&tbnh=112&tbnw=150&hl=en&start=1&prev=/images%3Fq%3Djeep%2Bcommander%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3D en%26lr%3D%26safe%3Doff)
see a resemblence? Mercades SUV (http://www.edmunds.com/pictures/VEHICLE/2002/Mercedes-Benz/100071764/007248-396x249.jpg)
what about here? Merc SUV number 2 (http://www.spiegel.de/img/0,1020,344551,00.jpg) Liberty (http://speedycars.chinacars.com/wallpaper2/jeep/Jeep%20Liberty%20-%2003.jpg)
You dont add Wrangler lines to something and call it a jeep, you dont add Hummer lines to something and call it a hummer, thus the whored name plates.
Jeep isnt anything it used to be, many would agree. A brand is more then a logo.
AronZ28 08-28-2005, 06:08 PM The Jeep Commanche looks like a 4 door 86 Cherokee(the orginal, smaller one).
The new Hynduia Sonota really rips off of Lexus's new designs.
I always thought the IS300 looked more like a BMW than a Lexus
Yossarian14 08-28-2005, 07:32 PM First of all the title of this thread is "What cars look like they were made by the wrong company or division". Jeep is not a car so I dont undestand why you brought up the entire company. Almost every car in Jeeps lineup looks distinctively Jeep so I think this entire argument is false. http://www.jeep.com/wrangler/index.html. The Wrangler in my opinion was a great job because it looks like an original thats evolved and is still very trail/off road capable and is offered in many options. I think every car they have in their lineup looks pretty Jeep. http://www.jeep.com/trailrated/index.html

Neither are some of the other Non-Cars listed in this post, dont single out.
and in the end this thread is opinion, and that was mine.
if you had ever taken out a older Wrangler to a newer one, you wouldnt be speaking about the late model wranglers trail capabilities.
AronZ28 08-29-2005, 01:31 PM The new Impala looks like it could have been the new Toyota Avalon. Only the new Avalon looks much more stylish, flashy, orginal, and stands out more in a crowded parking lot. Isn't it funny Toyota is now beating us on style as well(something I don't think they had ever done until now).
Threxx 08-29-2005, 01:53 PM The Nissan Altima and Maxima borrowed heavily off the Lexus GS' design. The Buick LaCrosse appears to have borrowed its front clip, except for the grill, from the GS as well.

I see a resmblance to an extend in the front clip and headlights and possibly in the angle of the front quarter panels, but that's beyond that they look like two completely different cars - especially in the interior (although that may not be what you were including in your reference)

GTO/Monaro has a 100% ponitac look IMO.
Ford Fusion looks like a Cadillac wannabe from the front. FiveHundred should be a VW
Sky looks like a Chevy (it could have passed for a Vette with the right tail lights)
Acuras look very Pontiac.
Jason E 08-30-2005, 03:06 PM I think the new Impala makes a better Buick than the LaCrosse does. I thought of that long before this thread, too!
ProudPony 08-31-2005, 07:38 AM FiveHundred should be a VW
LMAO!!!
You could put most VWs INSIDE the FiveHundred! :D
The new Accord looks almost exactly like the 2003 Cougars - taillights and all.
I don't know which is more out of place though...
Brandon_Lutz 08-31-2005, 08:40 AM Some of the higher end Hyundais are obvious rip offs of Mercedes front end and rear end styling cues.
Some of the newer Mitsubishi cars with their grills, look like something Pontiac wouldve done styling wise.
Toyota Echo looks like a smaller version of a Ford Focus.
G35 Coupe looks like something GM would've made for a sports coupe, but something along Buickesque lines.
Thats just me though.

Not to stir up anything, but I thought that LaCrosse borrowed its front from Jaguar, and the rest from Taurus. I really don't see GS in it.

Mainly the headlights, but now that you mention it, the old bubbly Taurus... I can see a resemblance in the front clip there as well.
