MattLeppala 08-27-2005, 02:06 PM So I bought one the best spark plugs available/wires at autozone it was like $71 for all my stuff.. i also got the fuel injector cleaner or whatever it is you dump into your gas tank and cleans your system i guess? so a friend and I start changing my wires we did the easy 3 on the 1994 V6 3.4L Camaro. then we realize we can't get to the other ones, so we start the car make sure it works and the car is shaking worse than before! Then I turn on the AC and it shakes double! (So i turn it off. im on my way to the shop and the car is running much crappier than before, and then i pay the shop a $61 to check and change all of them.. picked up the car today and its running just as ****ty still and these are like some of the best sparkplugs available and wires.
my old ones i had i dont know what they were but they looked like they were dead when we got them out, but the car ran much better than it is now ;\
i accelerate and shake shake pop shake.. i littearly have to floor the car to get it to run smoothly. the shop says bring it back and they will find out what the problem is but i dont know, this sucks heh. anyone experience any problems like this?
i turned on my car, and i look at my muffler/exhaust and it littearly is shaking as well.. feels like im going to break down on the road. this shop is one of the most recommended ones in town to so im sure they know what they are doing.
well thats my story ;| biggest damn misfire ever ugh
crasher88 08-27-2005, 07:56 PM well if I may ask what plugs did you buy from autozone. If you havn't figured it out by now autozone is the worst autoparts store on the planet. They don't what car you have all they want to do is sell you the most expensive stuff they have just to make some money off of you. Unless you have serius and I mean serius engine mods you should just stick with ac delco stuff. A good set of plugs and wires from ac delco would have been your best bet. The will last longer than anything from autozone and way higher quality. But enought about autozone lets get talking about your problem. I doubt you need to take it to a shop I'm sure we can figure outs what wrong with it. Lets start off with what you did replace on the car. What brand wires and what brand plugs did you get? Are you 110% positive you got the wires roughted properly, away from heat and moving objects, and each plug is going to the appropriate plug? The shop is a last ditch effert lets try and solve the problem ourself.
GALIATHON 08-28-2005, 09:15 AM and check the gaps on the plugs..
atl2001 08-28-2005, 11:04 PM im sure you have, but make sure you have the plugs wires going to the right cylinders and that all of the plug wires are securely connected, i can't imagine that it is a complicated problem. you arent running an MSD ignition are you?
that90spunk 08-29-2005, 03:10 PM did you buy bosche? because that is autozones main brand that they sell....and I have heard NOTHING good about that brand.
urbaNHunter44 08-29-2005, 07:02 PM Sounds like you have a hell of a misfire.
Recheck the wire routing to your distributor. I'm willing to bet the problem lies there. Even two of those wires crossed and it'll have EXACTLY the symptoms you described. Do it soon, misfiring is bad for the motor.
Also, did you gap the plugs correctly? Even if they came 'pre-gapped' they're often knocked around in shipping and the gap comes off.
Also, next time you do it, just buy stock replacements. I recommend AC Delco Platinums if you want to get a little fancy. Great performance and they last a long time.
hot white z 08-30-2005, 06:50 PM 3.4's don't have distributors. Matt, if you still have your old plugs check the gap on them. whatever they were set at is what your car LIKED (past tense). if your old wires were shot, i would venture to guess that the spark plugs were gapped very close to compensate for the wires inability to do their job. with new wires you might be able to open up the gap a little, and if i remember correctly a 3.4 is gapped at .045. your old plugs were probably .030-.032. enough about gap, stock AC Delco plugs are definitely the way to go, none of this platinum +2, +4, splitfire, rapidfire, or u-groove garbage. AC Delco platinums are also fine but not necessary. a $35-$40 set of Accel wires 8 or 8.8 is plenty for a stock to mid-level ignition system. AC Delco wires are fine anything Autozone probably tried to sell you was either not enough( Bosch, Deutch, Autolite, whatever the current store brand is) or not necessary ( high-priced MSD, Taylor, or Accel-anything bigger than 8.8 is overkill ). i'd check resistance on the wires you just bought and make sureyou didn't get a bad wire right out of the box, and also that all of the wires were connected securely and routed correctly. you have three identical coils, and if one goes bad your v6 will be hating life. check to make sure you're getting spark at all 6 plugs. if not, buy a STOCK REPLACEMENT coil and replace the defective unit, which you will have already identified by paying attention to which cylinder's spark plug was not firing. if you are getting spark at all 6 plugs, MAKE SURE you have your wires routed correctly, and if you still have the original coil packs in your car they should be labeled clearly for which cylinders they provide spark to. if not a haynes manual or chiltons manual is $15 well spent. hope this helps solve your problem.
MattLeppala 08-31-2005, 07:00 PM Hi all. I hope this misfiring is not to bad for the engine, Iv'e been driving for about 4 days pretty badly in it. Yes, I did get the bosche +4 or something like that.. well some kind and they came like "pre-gapped" like you didn't have to do the measuring or whatever. I'm not really an engine guy I did look at a little and from what I could tell things looked fine, however, I'm going to bring it to a shop tomorrow and show them this information you have provided.. and hopefully they can fix it easily.
Definetely has been driving me nuts and had a few complaints that my car sounds like **** in the parking lot. Hope to have this **** fixed by after school tomorrow..
damn also, I was going to fill up gas this morning it was $2.64 i was like damn thats high maybe it will drop after school -- I get home to fill up and it's $3.06!
Thanks again for all your help I'll let you know what the problem was if I get it fixed tomorrow!
crasher88 08-31-2005, 07:23 PM there is your probelm right there. Take those bosch plugs out and take them back to autozone and get your money back. And if they refuse to give you a refund throw them in their eye and walk off. Then do the correct thing go down and buy you some ac delco plugs and put them in and it will more than likely fix your problem. Those bosch plug are nothing but a waist of money and the only reason why autozone sells them is because the look cool and to the average person they look like the will do a better job than a normal plug. We can fix this without having to go to the dealership. Just put on ac delco plugs in yourself. Shouldn't take you no more than an hour at max and see if that fixes your problem. If not come back and ask more questions. There are a lot of people here that are more than willing to help you and save you some money
GALIATHON 09-01-2005, 06:25 PM YEAH LIKE CRASHER SAID--dont wast your time dealing with those SHOPS. Work on your own and really get to know your car, and you will never have to go to a shop again..
MattLeppala 09-02-2005, 04:32 PM I AM SO HAPPY. You have no idea. I didn't really have any time to work on my car so yes unfortunately but fortunately.. I brought it to a shop this morning before school. They said my $71 autozone stuff I bought was CRAP. They replaced my plugs with AC Delco, and my car ran like a champ. No more exhaust shake, ac shake, heat shake, popping, or any other sort of loud or annoying noise. This was a nightmare driving like this for a week.
My car runs so smooth it's like it is out of the factory. My car has never been like this before.
It was worth the $62 to pay them to change the plugs today and replace them.
Now it's time to go yell at Autozone later on today. My car seems like its 110% faster, and my RPMs are so low it is insane.
To all you people out there.. autozone's plugs suck! Also the shop ran my car through their high-tech computer since for free since this is the second time I had them change my plugs. Nothing wrong what-so-ever now.
I love it. Thanks all.
