I just bought my American '95 Camaro z28............and it has a feature, of which I have no idea what it is or what it does when I push the on/off button for it.

It's an ASR button that turns off and on on the dash light area but I am not sure what the heck it does..........

asr stands for acceleration slip reduction, a.k.a.:
traction control

But when do I use it? And for what purpose is it? Any explanation would be beneficial for me. There are times when I turn a little too quickly around the corners and the "low trac" indicator light shows up on dash.........does this have anything to do with the ASR button?? I appreciate your help!

leave your ASR on, and stomp on the gas from a stand still, you'll see what it does.

When you turn the key on and start the engine, the traction control system is "active". When your wheels start to slip, it will cut the power to the wheels. That's a useful feature when driving in rain or snow.

The switch allows you to turn the traction control system "off", so it will not cut power. That's a useful feature when you want to race :) . But each time you restart the car, the system will be active again. You can get a module that allows you to reverse the function of the switch, so that traction control is always "off" when you start the car, and it only turned on when you push the button.

the low trac light is just indicating a low tracion condition is detected, and, if the system is ot turned off, it is reducing throttle ad applying the brakes as required to control the skid

I'm not sure, but you might be able to get the ASR function altered with a PCM program. Maybe not, though.

Nope, not controlled by the PCM, it is contolled by the EBTCM(Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module)
