Need a good head gasket for 14 lbswicked_95z 08-26-2005, 08:47 PM I'm looking for a good head gasket for my 383 that will hold 14 lbs from a P-1SC. I did a search but didnt come up with anything useful that I could see. Thanks breakmyfootoff 08-27-2005, 10:40 AM Fel-pro 1074 is about the best thing you can get without going to a copper or cometic. wicked_95z 08-27-2005, 12:34 PM I just want to make sure that I go through this one more time only. If that means copper so be it. Isn't the 1074 the stock replacement? If so that is what I had on there last time, granted my heads were slightly warped but still I want to do this only once. FutureZMan 08-27-2005, 01:02 PM Do it the right way the first time, go copper. wicked_95z 08-27-2005, 01:19 PM http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=502247&prmenbr=361 What do you guys think about this one? Jeff 96 SS 08-27-2005, 06:57 PM If its a street car don't go copper trust me I know! Go with Cometic if you only want to do it once. Jeff 96 SS BLOWN 96 TA 396 D1 Z8'S 08-27-2005, 07:03 PM I have always used Felpro 1074 never a problem ;) Lonnie Pavtis 08-27-2005, 07:18 PM The 1074 is a thinner LT4 style gasket. The stock LT1 gasket is thicker & made of weaker material... do not use these. You should be fine with a 1074 & studs. You will not see 14# from a P1SC either, unless you have stock heads & a small cam. Expect more like 10-11# max. rskrause 08-27-2005, 09:05 PM Avoid copper on a street car - they almost always seep. FelPro 1074 would be fine. The Cometic is an excellent gasket but to work properly the correct preparation of the head and block deck is essential - they must be straight, flat, and very smooth or the gasket will not seal properly. Rich wicked_95z 08-28-2005, 08:42 AM Is that what you use Rich? Would the gasket I posted above be a bad choice? It doesnt seem to be a copper gasket. rskrause 08-28-2005, 09:59 AM I've used both the Cometic and the FelPro. I have not used the Titan gasket. It sounds good, but of course that is their own description. AFAIK they don't make one for the LT1. Rich wicked_95z 08-28-2005, 12:53 PM Is the 1074 a stock replacement gasket that is sent with their gasket sets or is it a upgraded gasket? Thanks Geoff Chadwick 08-28-2005, 02:39 PM FWIW the "stock replacement" LT1 felpro is 9966PT and is $17.97 from advance auto parts. http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?mfrcode=FEL&mfrpartnumber=9966PT&parttype=100&ptset=A The 1074 OTOH is listed as "high performance" and will set you back $46.46 from advance auto parts. http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?mfrcode=FHP&mfrpartnumber=1074 The Cometic gasket I have heard wonderful things about when done right, but again - prep is key. If you search you will find that people have leaking problems because of the final surface finish of the head/block surfaces. If done right the Cometic will hold, but if its not right you are in for headaches for a while. No matter which you do though, good studs will make a huge difference. Some have stuck with bolts and paid the price, despite everything else done properly. FutureZMan 08-28-2005, 04:04 PM Avoid copper on a street car - they almost always seep. Rich I never had any issues with my copper, but i have heard of some. Guess i got lucky :D SloLt1Z 08-28-2005, 04:27 PM I use 1074's with studs with 15 psi and i have no problem with head gaskets. How many miles so far? 94 NO TOP Z 08-29-2005, 10:05 AM I've had the cometics and studs for two years with no problems. Tuning is the biggest thing.. run lean or detonate and you'll blow out about anything you have. You should be fine with a 1074 & studs./QUOTE] I just found out yesterday that i had the stock replacement head gasket on my car. I thought when we rebuilt it we used the 1074 but i was wrong. I was losing compression into the water jackets on the #2,#8 cylinder and the #1 was starting to do the same thing. What is the part# of the head studs? Thanks Travis TravProcharged94Z 09-09-2005, 11:17 PM Is this the part# for the head studs I need>>> ARP-134-4001 or ARP-234-4301? wicked_95z 09-10-2005, 08:52 AM I just called summit racing and ordered them. Dont remember the part number TravProcharged94Z 09-13-2005, 08:01 PM I just called summit racing and ordered them. Dont remember the part number Did you ever get your studs? If so could you give me the part#. Thanks :) Travis wicked_95z 09-18-2005, 09:44 PM That's what I was saying. I just told summit what I wanted when I ordered. Never looked up the part number TravProcharged94Z 09-20-2005, 03:11 PM Well what I was asking was for you to look on your invoice when you recieve them. It will have the part# on there, it should be one of the part#'s above. Thanks wicked_95z 09-20-2005, 07:51 PM Oh okay...well Ive got more bad news. I ordered mine a while back and they are already on the car and the invoice is gone. Sorry I wasnt very clear, I hadn't just ordered them. I simply told summit what I wanted when I placed the order mw 09-20-2005, 07:58 PM You trust Summit alot more than I do. Told them three times on the phone headers for a four wheel drive truck and still wound up getting them for a two wheel drive :) TravProcharged94Z 09-20-2005, 09:18 PM Oh okay...well Ive got more bad news. Might be nice if it were for the LT1, looks like it's only for SBC's, the LT1 gaskets are a little different. | ||
