white goo under valve cover
white goo under valve cover
I have some white goo under my valvecovers and on my oilstick, thought I had a blown gasket so I pulled the plug in the pan and the oil that came out was black.
I also had to refill 1 gallon of coolant.
So..
- If I have coolant in my oil whay isnt the oil in the pan white?
- Where did the coolant go? if it isnt in the oil? doesnt leak and exhaust isnt white..........
- The white goo could be condens, I have open crankcase vent, or?
/N.

Re: white goo under valve cover
sounds coolent to me... i have that same **** where my old tem. housing was leaking.. i duno if ur oil will turn white.. water doesnt mix with oil so u can see it as it pours out.. have check to see if ur car is smoking ?
Re: white goo under valve cover
White goo is moisture mixing with the oil. Since you're down on coolant, I'd have your system pressure tested. It might be an external leak. Have the oil sent out for a sample testing. It will tell you if it's coolant or water. If there's coolant in the oil, chances are it's an intake manifold gasket leaking. Possibly a head gasket. Worst case is a cracked block or head.
Running alcohol, I get a lot of moisture in my oil because the engine runs so cold. The engine needs heat to burn off the water in the oil and I have a hard time reaching 160F. I try to change my oil after every race weekend.
Switch to a hotter thermostat, change the oil and recheck under the rocker covers the next time you need an oil change.

Re: white goo under valve cover
wen i blew my head gasket my oil pressure was goin crazy. wen i changed my oil half of the buket was oil and the other half was coolant. pour ur old oil into an old milk carton or somthing transparnet to see if the coolant mixed in. the oil should be on top.
Re: white goo under valve cover
Little update.........
Changed the oil and drove for about 30 min and checked the oil- white
So, I removed the intake, gasket looked OK and no signs of a leak......
Removed the heads and gasket looked OK and no signs of a leak
Well put it back together with new gaskets and everything, started it up and let it idle for 10 minutes and guess what
white oil again....
Next guess is the oil cooler, but how often do they brake????
Will check this weekend

Re: white goo under valve cover
Is the oil milkshake like or is it just a little bit? If you're only finding the goo under the valve covers, then it's just condensation. Aluminum heads generally cause this. Have you checked your coolant for signs of oil?
Re: white goo under valve cover
You mentioned that you were going to take it to the shop, what did they find? It is possible that you have a cracked head,or even a bad block. When you had the heads off did you have them magafluxed? This sounds like bad news and I hope you find your cooler is leaking instead, but be prepared for the worst.
Re: white goo under valve cover
i've found that most cars with cracked blocks over heat and show serious signs... and blown heads will usually make your oil pressure bounce like crazy shooting up high when you hit the gas. is it runing ****ty??? maybe you should leave it be untill it give you some more signs???? maybe try getting on it, you can tell alot about a car wen you open it up.
Re: white goo under valve cover
The shop pressurised the system but didnt find anything.....
The block is a new motown block has only 3000km on it, the same with the heads.....
No oil in water, and no water in combustion chamber and everything seems normal except the oil...
Will try bypassing the cooler this weekend, hold your thums..........
