I'm goin to visit some friends for the weekend tomorrow. Mapquest tells me that I should take hwy 30 all the way to 59, then go up 59 to nacogdoches. Thats like 180 miles.

However, hwy 21 goes all the way from Bryan to Nacogdoches and will knock like 70 miles off the trip. Is there something wrong w/ taking hwy 21? Does it go through tons of towns with slow speed limits and stop lights or something?

Anyone who's made the trip, whats the best route to take?

I live in Houston and my wife is from Nac. We've found that there really isn't much difference taking 59 N or taking 45 and heading through Huntsville. We actually take hwy 19 to 21 (through trinity and crocket) but we've never had any problems, just fill up with gas if your traveling late, almost every station closes early. Take 21, it will save you about an hour and a half- there are less cops on 21 too.
