69gto96z 08-25-2005, 12:46 AM How can I get my dash lights blue without changing out the cluster on my 96 Trans Am? I have done a search and can't find anything. Is it just a piece in front of the bulbs that make the lights red? I was thinking this because the bulbs were just normal bulbs.
69gto96z 08-25-2005, 09:45 AM Anybody?
Z95m6 08-25-2005, 11:17 AM Yes there is a film in the cluster that makes it light up red. I've heard you can disassemble the cluster and take the film off but i'd never try to do that. There are some companies that sell them that light up blue. Try www.procarparts.com
69gto96z 08-25-2005, 11:19 PM Why wouldn't you try it? I think I might try this weekend. I will let you know how easy/hard it was.
blackz151 08-25-2005, 11:43 PM take out ur cluster put 7 i think 194 bulbs in there the color u want and ur done. that what i did no big deal
69gto96z 08-25-2005, 11:51 PM Thats all you have to do in a Camaro because the gauges light up white from the factory, but in a T/A they use standard bulbs and an overlay thing to make the dash lights red. Thanks for the input though. Atleast I have an idea of how many bulbs to get. Where did you get your bulbs form?
ChicagoTransAm 08-26-2005, 06:39 PM I am not sure on your 96...but on my 00, it's damned near impossible
69gto96z 08-27-2005, 02:57 AM Yeah, I had it apart but didn't know to just pull the needles off, so I will try again tomorrow.
blackz151 08-27-2005, 01:52 PM all i hade to do was pull the panel off from around the cluster. take out 4 bolts twist out 7 bulds i think. put it the 7 new ones turn them on and make sure they worked
ChicagoTransAm 08-27-2005, 04:47 PM They actually make a tool for pulling needles off. Basically two little fingers that slide under the needle to pry it off evenly. If you're careful with a screwdriver, you should be ok though.
My question is, how do you know where to put the needles to get them back on? Are they keyed so you can't mess it up?

Nope they aren't keyed.
PS. Do a search on LS1tech, they had some good info on this subject.
69gto96z 08-29-2005, 10:39 AM Well, I spent all Saturday getting the red off of my gauges. It wasn't hard at all, but very time consuming. I used laquer thinner to soften up the glue, then a screwdriver to scrape the glue off. Then I used a box knife blade to scrape all of the red off. I haven't gotten any blue bulbs yet, so it is just lighting up white now. I also repainted my needles in silver and then put them back on and had to reset all of them. Everything is working good now though.

Sounds cool. What are you gonna do about all the other TA red lights? Like the ones in the door panels.
69gto96z 08-31-2005, 10:12 AM I'm not sure yet. I think I am going to make every light, all dash lights and door lights blue. I have a blue Panasonic stereo. So I am just going to make the whole thing blue. :D
Camarocracy 08-31-2005, 01:26 PM Just take some detailed pictures of your cluster before you remove the needles.
Can we get a picture of the silver needles? :D
69gto96z 09-01-2005, 01:03 AM Yeah I will get one in the daytime and at night with the ugly blue bulb covers I have. I need to get some LED's.
