Thinking about getting turbo. Any good/bad words about http://turbotechnologyinc.com/ls1.htm kit How it compares to STS?

I use to live up in Seattle Washington and Turbo Technology which is in Tacoma, did some custom tuning on my car. They were very knowledgable and did a great job on my car. I have heard of a few LS-1 guys who have run their kit and like it. If i remember right they are running the 76 turbo. Dont go with the 60-1, it sucks! I would say go with PTK if you are gonna spend the money. Visit their site www.proturbokits.com. Their LS-1 kit is easily the best out there on the market. If it were between the turbo technology kit and an STS i would opt for the turbo tech w/ 76mm turbo! Hopefully you will get some more advice from someone that actually owns an LS-1 with a kit installed.

FWIW, I have been very happy with my TTi Stage X kit (Y-Body).

The rear mount STS style setup is totally different.

The real questions are how fast do you want to go, how much money are you willing to spend, and what if any features (air conditions for example) are you willing to sacrifice.

Sorry, I should give this info at the beginning.

I want to go as fast as I can afford within my budget (7k max, installation included). This is my daily (and only one) car so I want to keep it super reliable for 2-3 years and one reason I prefer turbo vs charger is that I will not use it 99% of the time and as I understand in this condition turbo is safer. I do not want to relocate AC or change any engine internals.

You're probably better off with a supercharger. If your car must be reliable, you should know that turbo's produce alot more underhood head, fry wires and hoses, blow exhaust gaskets regularly, etc. . . The Vortech and ATI kits will have better overall fitment han any turbo because they are mass produced to be installed by the ordinary guy.

The heat issues you describe are common with the top mount turbo kits. The TTi setup, at least with the C5 kit, is hung low. I haven't had *any* heat issues or anything else for that matter.

Blowers and reliability are generally not used in the same sentence.

Where did you hear THAT?!?! Directionally, how could they be less reliable than turbo's???

Idlers, tensioners, and bearings all wear out more quickly with centrifugal super chargers. Some people have better luck than others, but, no matter how you dice it there are some inherent issues. I have had both an ATI D-1SC and a TT setup and am familiar with the pros and cons of each.

I, too, have had both, and waaaay more problems with the turbo setup.

Power level plays a big part in this. Most of the blower problems I've seen crop up are around the 550+ rwhp area.

Dont go with the 60-1, it sucks!

Their t76 kit is kind of expensive, what is wrong with 60-1 turbo. My goal is about 450 hp.

And you dont think any of that has anything to do with the fact that you ran an engineered blower kit, versus a homemade turbo kit?

My buddy is on his 3 idler in his 99 cobra that has under 40k miles on the clock...just because big car manufacturers use it, doesnt always mean its going to last awhile...

Sorry, I was saying the 60-1 turbo sucked due to its ability and size. I was under the impression you were looking for more power. If you are only looking at about 450 then it should support that no problem. Ask the guys over at turbo technology if you can ever upgrade to the 76 on your specific kit by changing down pipes etc. You want to keep your options open on something like this.

Yep, the idler pulley is the same one used in the old 7.4L diesel trucks. I broke one, but the bearings and spring were fine even after alot of miles. They're about $94 from a Ford stealership. Oh, if you remove the logo, they last longer. :lol: :)

AndreyZ, Just an FYI, there is a turbo technology kit for sale on Ebay. It is the kit with the T-76 head unit, intercooled and is brand new and complete. Just do a search under cars and parts, (Turbo Camaro) and you will see it. It was just posted the other day. Good Luck!!!
