I have adopted a whinning sound that begins at about 1500 rpms and goes to about 2000. I only notice it in 4 gear and above, but I think I heard it last night in 3rd a little bit too. Its really noticeable if i am coasting to a stop in fourth gear as the rpms drop slowly from 2000-1500. The car is a 93z28 m6.
If I push in the clutch the sound stops, which is why I am guessing it is tranny related. I described the sound as whinning b/c it is the best word I could think of. It sounds like if you were to hold a bottle out the window while driving, kinda that whistling sound if you know what I am talking about.
