output shaft vs. driveshaft length

I was wondering what was the correlation between the length of the output shaft vs. the length of the driveshaft. I know that the angle formed between the two would change. What are the pros/cons to having more of an angle (longer output shaft) against a smaller angle (longer driveshaft).

a longer output shaft would cause a greater angle between the output shaft and the rear end yoke for starters, this would also require you to get a shorter torque arm to prevent binding
