Drivetrain Clank - FIXED!

I have been having a very loud clanking noise when putting my car into D-R or R-D and upon braking and hard acceleration. I replaced the transmission mount and driveshaft(u-joints) but it was still there.

I put in a new gm torque arm bushing last night and that solved it. Half of the bushing was completely gone, I could literally move my torque arm up and down several inches with ease.

That bushing is a huge pain in the rear to change out though. I had to remove the transmission crossmember, driveshaft, the other crossmember, the torque arm, and drop the transmission a little bit to get the thing out.
The nuts on there are a 15mm and you will need a wrench and a socket.

Hope this helps someone in the future.

A real PITA to change, but makes a huge dif if the stock one is broken, which they usually are. Mine fell apart once I got it out of the clamshell! lol

i guess it was easier for me to access cuz mine's a manual

i just removed the center console, the shifter and its boot, and i have easy access to the 15 mm bolt, of course getting the oem bushing out of the bracket that was riveted on, a whole nother story

Did that, it was a total pain in the arse. Broke a chisel getting them off, but I did it without remove any brackets, just undoing the bolt on the top of the C-bracket.

The retaining bolt that holds my clamshell closed has come out twice! I think the threads in the tranny for that hole are stripped out! Can I just take the torque arm off???

I don't think driving without a torque arm would be that great of an idea. Maybe short term, but probably not long term. I have no proof on that, just thinking of it logically. It seems like it is a vital suspension component. It would be like asking to drive without LCAs or shocks.
