I read the huge misfire thread but it didn't seem to be for 3.4L's so.....
I have a 1995 Camaro V-6 3.4L. It is missing and popping when accelerating at all RPM/speeds. Sometimes when it pops I can feel it in the gas pedal. Has no power at all, almost crawling uphill. Does not run hot at all.
Replaced plugs/wires, fuel filter, and adjusted the timing. This helped a little but not that much.
Has anyone tried the fix that worked for 3.8's on a 3.4L?

well are you positive you have spark all the way to the plugs. If so sounds like you need to move on to other possibities like fuel or computer.

Check map sensor and that little then plastic air line that runs to it. that line could be melted just enough to block your air mix.. clean your throttle body, and check your injectors, and your cat converter..

I checked the map sensor and the wires running to it are melted.
What is that larger group of wires that the MAP sensor wires runs from? I guessing it's the wiring harness, because some of them are melted to?

I blieve all the wires are from injectors and sensors that are ontop of the engine. And if those are all melted then you need to either fix them by splicing in new wires or replacing the entier harness all together.

Looking at the engine, these wires are on the back left side. Above the oil dipstick. Is it just called a wiring harness or is there a specific name for it?

not sure call your local chevy dealership and talk to the parts department. Most of them are nice and will help you with what you need or what you want info about.
I was just looking through my chevy service manuel for 94 camaro/firebird and it says its the main engine wiering harnes. it wrapes around the engein starting from the front driverside of the engine and wraping all the way around behind and up the other side of the engine. Not sure if that hepls you any but thats all I could find.

my 1994 camaro v6 3.4l does this exact same thing, i noticed it smally about a month ago.. and it's been getting on my nerves, i'm going to take it into the shop and have it checked out. i think the sparkplugs need to be changed or something though. recently when i have been going up hills it like makes weird pop noises and feels like i wont make it up the hill so i accelerate the gas a little more, and when i get passed 3000 rpm it's fine. 2500 is the mark it doesnt like. guess a bad cylinder or transmission fluid or something.. oh well should be fixed this week.
i think i'm only getting like 15 miles per gallon, is this why.. or is it my stupid driving? heh.
I would see if you can remove the wiring harness to inspect the extent of the damage. Patch it up and reinstall and see if that fixes it. I'd also check to see if you are blowing fuses, might be a hint as to where you are shorting wires.
Basically, wires only melt when way too much current is passed through them. You probably have a short where a high capacity wire is leaking current into a low capacity wire and leaking to ground. Fuses should prevent this from happening but sometimes that is not possible so the wires melt from the heat.

I don't think it is a fuse problem. I can see where the manifold has melted the harness. How easy is it to remove the harness so I can patch up the wires.

Sounds like the catalytic converter is plugged up.
