This is my first post and i need help. I replaced my head gaskets on my 93 3.4 camaro and now i can not get the valves adjusted right. My chiltons manual says zero lash and 1 1/2 turns. I have had it apart twice now and both times they were too tight and the car missed and ran horrible. 1 1/2 turns seems excessive to me especially since it will not run right after trying this twice. I have worked on chevys all my life and i usually adjust valves while it is running, unfortunatley this car will not allow this. Please any help would be deeply appreciated because i am at my wits end. Thanks,

Noob

don't recal anyway of adjusting our valves since they use self adjusting hydralic lifters.

It's called lifter preload. Only rockers that do not require adjusting are "Pedastle style".. you have to make SURE that you are doing this one cyl at a time and that BOTH valves are closed When your adjusting.

Are you following the directions of putting the motor at Top dead center then rotating the crank and adjusting the associated valves?

Or are you jsut tightening all the valves.

I belive I followed the haynes or chiltons(I have both) on my 3.4L and I didn't have any problems. Also are you sure the wires are hooked up right, simple thing but worth double checking.

If this deals with getting compression to the engine, than the Chilton's Manual is wrong. I was told by people on his board, other boards and confirmed that 1 1/2 is too much and it leaves no compression.

whatever manual it was, haynes or chiltons(I have both) I had not problems and the car still ran just fine afterwards, pulled good times again and still going to this day last I heard.
