00cls1camaross 08-12-2005, 01:24 PM I am prolly the stupidest person alive....
It had just rained and the roads were pretty wet... i was cruising around with my friend when this fricken civic pulls up next to me. Since i have a "big bad camaro" i decide to tear him up.... little do i know that the road that i am on turns into dirt. So the light hits red and WOT i hit it and start sliding around (i turned off my ASR). Evenually i grabbed and took off. By the end of second gear he was barely behind me and then all of a sudden.... an act of God... i turned back on my asr while we were still racing and then BAM i hit the dirt road and lost control... i slammed on my breaks and started spinning.... then i could feel the asr working stabilizing me and then SMASH right into a fricken stop sign... after that i reversed my car out and looked and i had a small scuff and crack on my bumper... all i can say is someone up there didnt let me die... or it could have just been the traction control??? who knows but it was scary ****... and i am 100% sure that that is my last time racing on the street... hope this makes you think twice about racing...

Klypto 08-12-2005, 01:49 PM KINDA same thing happened to me, but i wasnt as lucky as you(see sig, pics inside) i wasnt racing, but i did smash the gas at 70mph while it was wet...
2 trees + 70mph = not good :(

but the rebuild(motor swap) will be done next week!
MarkyMark 08-12-2005, 01:57 PM I think it was your abs working and not your asr. as far as I know asr is only for accelerating, not slowing down.
2000GTP 08-12-2005, 03:18 PM Good thing neither your friend or yourself was injured. I think most of us have learned that lesson at least once in our lives.
00cls1camaross 08-12-2005, 03:54 PM i have felt my asr work before when i purposly accelerate in a wet area and it cuts off my throttle kind of and slows me down.... i thought it was asr... anyone know for sure?
MarkyMark 08-12-2005, 10:35 PM yea the asr will cut your throttle when you accelerate, but you said you felt the asr when you applied the brakes and started to spin out of control. The abs would make your brakes kinda pulsate which helps keep the tires from locking up.
It is scary as hell though when you have close calls.....once on a turn I lost control in the rain and did a 180 degree spin and also in the rain I was probably 2 inches from rearending someone (The abs saved me though). But, I'm a dumbass and the need for speed won me over and now I have currently deleted my abs and my asr for weight reduction mostly and to clean up my engine bay (and the fact that asr is the biggest pain in the ass most of the time)
00cls1camaross 08-13-2005, 03:53 AM thanks mark... i know you have answered a number of my post so thanks... yeah damn... i was never so scared... not just for my life but for my gf.... now though i am going to think twice about where i race on the street...
Moving to the "kills" section. Most of us in the drag racing forum can understand you choice to start going to the track. Hopefully in the kills forum it may encourage someone else to go to the track as well. :)
Klypto 08-14-2005, 11:46 AM yea, i doubt ill street race anymore once i get my baby back... i had someone in my car that i met 6 days before... LUCKILY shes fine, but the whole sitsuation scared the hell outa me... you would think shed hate me lol, but it got us to become pretty close friends....

GT KILLER 08-14-2005, 12:56 PM Well, I may still play on the street, but I'll make sure that I am familiar with the road I am on, and that it's pretty damn dry out.
JBird33 08-14-2005, 01:57 PM Hitting your brakes may have been what screwed you! Don't ever do that if you're spinning, you can usually bring her back around. I'm happy you're ok man!
Antz97ZNJ 08-14-2005, 03:35 PM Had a few of the same things happen to me in my 97....but only on black ice...I did a complete 180 for about 40 feet and was stopped by a sidwalk about a foot away from a telephone pole...luckily it prevented me from wacking it... the only thing that really happen was I cracked my wheel up pretty bad...after that (especially having no suspension or corning mods whatsoever) if there was even a light sprinkle I was driving like miss daisy or taking my mothers car.
00cls1camaross 08-14-2005, 07:11 PM i know... that whoel experience brought us closer too... but yeah i know i messed up and all... my new bumper comes in tues. and so does my grill... any ideas on where to find the paint code for the color of my car?

jimdrechsler 08-14-2005, 08:47 PM too bad it takes an experience like this for people to realize the dnagers of street racing. however i still do it on occasion if i feel it is safe :D

The ASR woks both ways. As long as the clutch is dissengaged, the wheels will sense sudden changes in traction, and will help you straighten the car out.

00cls1camaross 08-15-2005, 03:32 PM well i just drove 6 hrs in rainy roads and construction to phx.... but man i know i learned my lesson.... just cruise it 2 mph so everyone sees you.... ill worry abotu racing later
Black1995Z 08-15-2005, 04:05 PM we've all been there, its a shame only half of us will truly learn anything!
I hear plenty of stories about people wrecking thier 2nd or 3rd car within a certian time... trouble doesnt follow people that like unless they're guilty.
glad to hear youre ok!
00cls1camaross 08-15-2005, 09:15 PM the worst thing is though.... i am only 16 and the dissapointment from your family of being irresponsible is worse that my car being crashed
FireFox05 08-20-2005, 12:57 AM Amen man, I know that if something like that happend I probably wouldn't be allowed to have teh car anymore. Good thing no one was hurt.
JeicetheDamned 08-20-2005, 01:56 AM Yeah, one time I was racing a guy in an SS and somehow he flipped his car. I don't know why he lost control of it, but I looked in my mirror, and there he was, spinning around the interstate and then flipped over. I don't race on the streets anymore either..
Schismblade 08-20-2005, 07:41 PM Racing on wet roads? C'mon man, people should have more common sense than that.
GreenDemon 08-21-2005, 02:38 AM No insult intended dude but racing on wet roads in an f-body is just asking for it.
97bowtie 08-22-2005, 11:23 AM i am 100% sure that that is my last time racing on the street...
now though i am going to think twice about where i race on the street...
Typical progression. You went from being 100% sure that you will never race on the street again, to simply thinking twice where you do it.
We've all been through this - being scared and swearing we are done with street racing. Just keep it safe if you race on the street. Be smart where/when you do it and you'll be fine. However, the strip is always the best place.
robyrd 08-23-2005, 12:41 AM Yeah F-body (wide tires) + Water = BAD THINGS!!
I was driving my 97 z28 in the rain on some back roads only doing maybe 40, but I had nearly bald tires and hit a puddle and hydroplaned right into a tree. LUCKILY me and my pass. were ok, and insurance bought me a new car.....but still......
Morginie 08-23-2005, 12:44 AM Typical progression. You went from being 100% sure that you will never race on the street again, to simply thinking twice where you do it.

I don't think it belongs on the streets, but I would still streety race.
There are only 4 rules I have, if youa re gonnna do it (which you shouldn't).
1.) Be safe, don't let yourself get way too much speed, just cause you want to beat the guy really bad. People let themselves get going way too fast in street racing.
2.) Don't race in bad weater, this one is a no brainer, like JESUS. Especially in an F-body, of all cars that are bad in weather. Rain, Snow, Ice = no racing.
3.) No populated places. Don't race if theres lots of pedistrian crossing, cars turning, etc. Its an accident waiting to happen. Some person wanted to jay walk sees you at a stop light, or cruising at 40km, so they judge the distance and speed, next thing they know, BAM you punched it and they are dead.
4.) Don't frickin race if you don't know what is ahead of you, ESPECIALLY if you can't see whats bloody ahead of you.
Its best to race on roads you know.
Its almost impossible to wave of the chance of beating down some overly confident kid in a fart pipe honda civic, so just keep it safe guys.
00cls1camaross 10-26-2005, 11:11 PM well here we are in october and i finally got my car fixed with new parts and it looks like it used to... i still have not raced my car since the crash and i plan on not doing it still, i cant tell you though how many fart cans i have just wanted blow away but then i remember what happend and just drive slower till they leave me alone. I should be giong to the track soon so ill let you all know how i do for my first time! Here is a link to my MYSPACE and it has the pictures on the front page.
