jonathan_abilene 08-11-2005, 01:45 PM I'm trying to decide if I want to upgrade my 3.8L 2k2 engine with a turbo/supercharger.
or
drop in the LT1 or LS1?
I'm guessing dropping in a LT1 would be the best power to cost ratio %. But the v8s would be a little more gas money.
Supercharger will run around ????
Single Turbo 3.8L will run around ~13.2 in 1/4
stock N/A LT1 should run around ~ 13.0 in 1/4
stock N/A LS1 should run around ~ 12.5 in 1/4
Thnx this is gonna be a ***** PITA :death:
NOS2006 08-11-2005, 03:44 PM Turbocharge that thing.
You can still say "it's only a 6" and blow away 75% of the people out there on the road.
that90spunk 08-11-2005, 09:59 PM hey im having the same problem...im seriously thinking about turbocharging my camaro. but im confused out of my mind haha..
id say turbo charge it. You can find alot of parts pretty cheap if you search around...ebay, camarov6.com, Thats why im thinking turbo because i can get half the stuff i need minus the turbo and all the piping for pretty cheap.
But the turbo and piping part is i think wahts going to get expensive plus if you cant hook it up yourself labor prices at a custom shop will get a bit costly.
Camabird 08-12-2005, 02:26 AM ima go ahead and say it before people start yelling about it. Stock lt1 runs 14s, stock ls1 runs 13s all variant upon driver's ability. Anywho, I'd turbo the 6 because then youd be one of the few 13 or 12 second v6s whereas if you got an ls1/lt1 and modded it even to the 11s youd still be one of MANY people with an 11 second v8.
jonathan_abilene 08-12-2005, 03:43 AM thanks dudes
im turboing fo sho
what if i was one of the few ls1s pushing for the 9s? i wanna see my pos do a wheelie lol
Next Poll: What Turbo Kit to get?????
Tru2Chevy 08-19-2005, 03:12 PM Single Turbo 3.8L will run around ~13.2 in 1/4
If you got a turbo kit and only ran a 13.2, I think people would laugh at you :D
My friend is in the mid 13's with a stock motor...just some weight reduction, suspension work, gears, and tuning.

no they don't, many LT1's are 14 second cars, with many LS1's being 13 second cars... there are obviously many variables here, but i'd find it rare for a stock LS1 to run in the 12's
Loochy88 08-21-2005, 02:48 PM i'd definietly say turbo or sc, especially if youre trying to be unique. i'd personally go supercharger.
Need4Camaro 08-21-2005, 08:15 PM I am curious, How would a turbo affect a 3.8's fuel economy? I for one would LOVE a turbo but I don't want to bite the bullet and end up guzzling as much gas as a V8... If thats the case I'd think I'd rather HAVE a V8... So what kind of milage could a turbo'd 3.8 get? and would it be possible to tune a turbo'd 3.8 to run at just Mid Grade?
Hedzilla 08-21-2005, 09:33 PM So you want power, but good gas mileage? You wanna beat V8's, but use less gas then them?
Dude, fast cars cost money. They cost money to build, maintain, and fuel. You want power, you gotta have deep pockets, and balls. Your daily drivability WILL be affected, despite what you may think. Everything may run fine, but you are pushing your engine in a way it wasnt designed.
This power requires a higher grade gas. Thats more money at the pump. It will also burn gas faster to make that power, and burn more gas. Not so much when you arent under boost, but once that boost hits, it will.
You need to make up your mind. You want power, its gonna cost you.
And you cant be makin claims like you did, sayin a blower will run XX.XX and a stock LT1 will run XX.XX. it all depends on what car its in, weight, mods, boost, etc.

I made none of those claims
I was asking for fuel economy out of a curious standpoint... Reason being is; If I'm going to burn as much fuel as a V8 if not more, then I may aswell just go out and buy a V8 because I'll have WAY more potential... No offense I mean a V6 could definately be made fast but for the time, money, and effort, a V8 could almost run twice as fast if done right.

FWIW - you are already burning pretty much the same amount of fuel as an LS1, and making far less power. I think the 3.8 was rated at 1-2 mpg higher than the LS1.....

Camabird 08-22-2005, 05:41 PM rating are crap anyway, I get 25 city 32 highway and I have 4.10s.
