Pullied 03/04 Cobra vs. Boosted Z28

I finally got to race one with my turbo installed. I'm running 5 psi, no intercooler or tune. He has pullied vert. with a cat-back. We had three races.

Race 1: 20 roll. I got the jump but missed third. He walked me bad.
Race 2: 30-35 roll. He gave three honks and we were off. Both shut down at the top of second gear due to traffic. Neck and neck.
Race 3: 30-35 roll, three honks. Neck and neck until we shut down at the top of third.

Traction was an issue for me on bad street tires. No hooking until third. (Nittos were shipped out yesterday). I smoked him (literally). My turbo seals are bad, a lot of oil dumping out the downpipe. He was a really cool dude and his car is very nice. I have much respect for the Cobras after being walked by a few. Glad to see my homebrew turbo can keep up with pullied Cobras.

With a turbo kit I'm thinking you should be beating him? Do you have any other mods?

Well he would have won after a few factors.
A. He had tires that actually grabbed
B. He has no intercooler for the turbo
C. From what I read I believe he is running the stock tune?
D. His oil seals are bad.

I would say with these things fixed he would have put a hurting on that Cobra

I think the traction hurt me most of all. All tire smoke until third. That's when my car starts moving, and that's when we shut down.

I'm running a homebrew kit with an old clunky H2D at 5psi no tune or intercooler. I'm hoping for bottom 12's with DR's.

I spanked a Porsche Carrera 4S today. Started behind him at the light. He nailed it off the light and I caught him and went around him going into fourth. We were playing around before that. I was following him and he would nail it. I would catch him and pass.

True.
Properly setup Turbo Ls1's are BAD NEWS....My cammed car would have put up a better race then his turbo LS1.

All spin through first and second may have a bit to do with it. I now have Nitto DR's and I can say that they have made a huge difference. Maybe I'll see him again, maybe I wont.

I'll be happy with low 12's for now on my homebrew setup. I added about 100 horsepower with an old diesel turbo, some tubing, a chop saw and a welder. It cost me a few hundred bucks and I'm very happy with the results. Maybe I'll bolt on a new turbo and a tune down the road, but I'm having fun with it the way it is right now.

Yeah, the Carrera 4S is a ~ $90,000 car with about 350 BHP......probably lucky to get 300RWHP with the all wheel drive it uses.

Don't you wonder sometimes what it must feel like to drop $90K on a car, then spend your time watchin' the tailights of Camaros pull away from you? It can't be too much fun.................for them, that is. :D

I am interested, how does all this look underneath the hood? I would like to see pics of it.

Yeah, i walked all over a 03/04 cobra the other day. This was on the interstate from about 60mph to about 150. He had a cowl induction hood so I was thinking had something more done to it but I stomped all over him.

Stock for stock, the 4S would equal/beat a LS1 F-body in the 1/4 (13.0 sec @ 108 mph), and the 2006 version would beat it. I guess if you you factor in the cost and some modifications for the F-body, maybe 0.1% of Porsche owners would care that they got beat by a domestic pony car?

Way off-topic now. Ah, forced induction on medium-to-large V8s... Gotta love the results!

Most Porsche owners wouldnt even bother racing most modified f-bodies. Some do and are just uninformed that Porsche's arent the fastest rides out there anymore. Most of the rich boys that drive these things are over 50( no offense) and have more money than god. Racing some F-body is a VERY low priority to them. Getting their wives a facelift or a boob job for christmas is most likely what they are contemplating as you fly past. My car has one thing in common with a Porsche, Brembo brakes. I dont try to pick fights with these cars. I respect their past and that they are still alive and well here in the present. If the doctor in the next lane wants a friendly drag race, Im game. But when it comes to the twisties most F-bodies would be better of sticking to what they do best, the straight line. And last time I checked, you arent gonna spend 90,000 on even a maximum output F-body.

Porsches:
Once in a while I'll get a race out of a Porsche. Some 911 owners around So Cal. are game. I like the air cooled 911 body better than the new look. I had a '72 911T and an '82 911SC. I'd love a '78-'89 Turbo.
