Send your VIN to SLP. They will supply you with a Build # if it's the real thing.
I did that today, am waiting for an answer to find out the Build #

You don't need to contact SLP. Simply look at the RPO codes. If there is a WU8, it's a real SS.

Yup, WU8 and the RPO codes are inside the drivers door jam. The 98+ SSs air box looks similar to the Z28s air box except for a rubber strip under the opening to the air box which I would assume is to help direct the air from the hood into the intake.

The camaros were all made in Canada... hence the Canadian code. Mine starts with the same series and was bought new in Colorado Springs, CO. If you want to know your build number (xxx out of xxxx made that year) you will need to contact SLP and supply the VIN.
Do you still have the stock exhaust? It should be a single tip exhaust. Most people tore it off almost immediately and replaced it with an aftermarket dual tip system. That exhaust was only installed in 98' on SS cars. I believe SLP had an option later towards the end of 98' to replace that system with a dual tip SLP system.
Also- your rims will have a GM stamp. That was the first year GM made their own ZR-1 style rims. Earlier OEM rims had the previous company's stamp. Chrome wheels became an option towards the end of the year.
