Anybody else have this annoying issue with their windshield wipers?

mine slap.

and by slap... i don't mean they hit anything... but unless im going over 80mph (which is uncommon, in the rain) when the wipers reach the point of finishing their "stroke" and change direction on their "downstroke" they make a loud annoying slapping sound... like the little squigee part of the wiper has to flip over against the windshield under pressure or something.

know what im talking about?

are there new wipers i can get or something to get rid of that?

it never rains here so its not that big of an issue right now... but im gonna be in newyork/penn for 3 months soon... so...

thanks for any ideas

I don't have the slapping problem you described, but if I did, and it bothered me, I would replace the stock single blades with a pair of those multi-blade wipers. They probably wouldn't need to flip over and slap so loudly.

This happens with my car too..and yes it is extremley annoying and even embarassing when i have a passenger. "what the hell is that banging noise?" I think that is just how it was designed so that the wipers would still function at highway speeds. I did notice that on the highway around 75 and upwards the wipers slow down quite a bit and the slapping dissapears... And as for the blade only touching half the windshield, try just slapping it down a few times. The springs in the arms lose tension over time. When i changed my blades that happened to me so i just got a litle rough with the blades by slapping them down a few times on the windshield. Problem solved for me.

new blades and/or wiper assemblies. the blades will deteriorate and allow the flopping back and forth and the rivets in the blade assemblies will loosen over time allowing more flopping as well. rain-x usually helps too by just making the glass smoother. just make sure to apply it as directed and get it ALL off.

1.) Use Rain-X. Once you use it you will never, ever, own a car without this being done to the windshield.
Just remember to polish it out by sprinkling water on it (dunno why it works but it does). Most common complaints with Rain-X are that it leaves streaks - doing this gets rid of the streaks.

2.) If the rubber is torn or cracked, get new blades. If they are still good, try cleaning them. Wipe them down with Windex or the likes until black stops coming off of on the cloth.

3.) If the new wipers aren't hitting the windshield - you often times need to bend them up a little to make them work right. Our windshields are curved and most new blades need a little "adjustment" in order to hit the entire windshield. This is tricky to do at first but you'll figure it out.

Those multi blade wipers are so rice, it's not even funny.
