Good Performance Ideas?

Alright im gonna ask you all this one..

I currently have a Flowmaster Exhaust, not true dual because I have stock headers..

umm I have a K&N CAI.. I have a Spec Stage II Clutch. I run on Goodyear Eagle GS-D3 tires.

I am running platinum 4tip plugs Bosch just to get better spark.

any ideas on some performance stuff? im looking for cheaper stuff.. but something with gain too! Ideas?

Yeah...Umm....On what car???

Dont run Bosch's, Run AC Delcos

+4 plugs are a joke. Replace them.

Aluminum driveshaft. Easy $100 mod.

i'm going to assume a 96 3.8L, but thats purely a guess....
short throw shifter, although not much of a performance upgrade will make u love ur car even more (if ur at 5 spd)

gears would help u, either 3.42's or 3.73's

LSD for sure is a great addition (maybe get a rear end from a 5.7L 6 spd, 3.42 gears and LSD)

headers, although good, not great bang for the buck...

and, yes, bosch plugs are a waste of money, simple ones do a great job...

also, try a simple tune up, not too much money, could help the car run better, and thus improve performance

lmao opps yea

car is a 96 3.8 Camaro 5spd..

lmao oh yea.. simple tune up hahahaha

oils been changed like less than 100 miles ago. also new waterpump new oil gear.. new oil filter.. new gaskets.. umm radiator flushed filled.. 180* thermo was added im gonna ditch it and get the 160 from thunder racing. oh yea to add to whats been changed the oil sending unit is good but I got another I can put on.. Clutch has probally 1500 miles on it. umm fluid might be due for a change. rear gear oil does.. the powersteering was changed and the pump is good. I honestly dont understand it its got power.. but wont kick a dougnut?!?!

and but if you think about it, if 2 prongs get covered or coroded.. you have to realize you have 2 more and with one you dont get a good spark do you with it broke.. but all in all I see where your comming from the spark is the same..

still open to cheap inexpensive ideas!

free mods?

and please no bashing I know the gears and headers want 3.73's for gears and headers of some kind.. but I want to know what is LSD Limited Slip Differential?

u wont do donuts because u have 1 tire fire, slap an LSD (u have it right), and both wheels will spin, and u will have donut delight...

u seem to have an idea of what u want... honestly, gears/LSD is ur next move (a z28 rear end would be great, as you'd get disk brakes at the same time)... that gets my vote, that is after u install a b&m or pro5.0 shifter

What's the HP gain from aluminum driveshaft and gears? A rough estimate seperately or together.

With the aluminum driveshaft, you don't really add any horsepower. Essentially, you free up horsepower that is already there that is lost in the drivetrain. Lighter driveshaft spins easier, thus freeing up some power. I honestly can't estimate, but I noticed my acceleration was a bit quicker.

Gears don't add any real horsepower either though they will help acceleration (and hurt MPGs).

Doesn't matter if you have 1, 2, or 4 prongs, only one is sparking.

Where can u buy an aluminum driveshaft?

Where can u buy an aluminum driveshaft?

LS1Tech.com would prolly be the best place to find one, most of the 98+ LS1 cars got them.

Spark plugs - while that one out of four prongs is firing, the other three are shrouding the spark, which, if anything, will cause a less complete burn than a standard plug.

Gears, LSD, and a shifter will help tons. Lots of guys like the Pro5.0 shifter. Gear choice will vary based on the driving you do, and what type of racing (if any) you participate in. If you don't see lots of highway time, and you like drag racing, go with 4.10s and don't look back.

What kind of budget do you have to work with?

HAHA...no horsepower gains from gears and a driveshaft... who told you that lie? If you really wanted to add a some power to any motor, theres better ways than doing gears n driveshaft. I saw a 6 banger stang run an 11.90 at the track... good luck

No one told it to me, the guy asks for performance ideas, someone suggests those, so I ask how much horsepower it will give. I'm just learning, so I ask questions. And I learn more and more every day.

oh well.. dosent hurt to ask!

Here's a suggestion from a newbie, how about a better camshaft? Probably under $300.

problem with a cam, is you're likely going to want to do a better roller-rocker setup, plus its a real pain to install (REAL pain), plus it may effect emissions, if thats a problem... however, something to think about, thats for sure..

please explain how changing out a driveshaft is going to make a motor produce more power....

thanks!

It doesn't exactly, it allows more of the power the motor already has reach the rear wheels. Since its 'rotating mass' it will allow the engine to spin up quicker if what the engine is spinning is lighter.

While a good mod, its really hardly noticable and probably not the best thing to do in the early stages, imo. You'd get more enjoyment from suspension mods (shocks ~$300 and subframe connectors $150-300) than an aluminum ds.

Cutouts are cheap and fun too, $50 installed.

If youre going to really get into modding the car, a good start would be the LSD as mentioned.

Oh and definitely lose those plugs, they'll cause knock retard at WOT and take away power.

lower rotational mass...

lower rotational mass...
less rotational mass of an object not in the motor will allow the power the be transfered to the ground easier, it will not make the motor more powerful

does a set of skinny front tires add HP, NO!

i was just pointing out that baddboy1705 was spreading 1/2 truths
