Freescan is not working right with USB adapter

I just bought a new laptop. The cable I have is setup to connect to a serial port but my new laptop doesn't have a serial port so I borrowed an adapter from a friend. The belkin USB to serial adapter. Now free scan won't connect. It worked fine on my other laptop. Any advice?

Did a search, what a pain in the @ss. I guess my question now is: has anyone had luck with the Belkin F5U109 adapter?
