Sorry, this is between drivetrain, and brakes post. My ABS INOP light no longer comes on. Not sure if the rear ABS are working. Had a loud bang in the rear a while ago. Is it possible that i broke the ABS ring gear?

If that sensor isn't working right (like if that ring is broken) I would think the INOP light would come on and stay on.

what could cause the light not to come on anymore?

From you other post you say you have ABS and TCS, this means you have a 4 channel system so you don't have a reluctor ring in your diff, the sensors are at each of the rear wheels...

even if one of them is broken, shouldnt the other still work and make the ABS INOP light come on? how can i check for a bad module?

Have you pulled the differential cover to see if you sheered a tooth off either the pinion or ring gear?

no. could that cause my problem?

the car still drives good...if i sheared a gear off, wouldnt that make it ride bad?

It might still drive OK if it just sheared one tooth.

Pull the cover and look, that's the only way to be sure.

if i just leave it, do i run the risk of completely blowing the rear? I am replacing the rear very soon, and dont really want to take it all apart now.

It'll take you 30 minutes and less than $20 to pull the cover and look, then replace the fluids.

I am still trying to figure out why he feels his ABS INOP light should be on??? It doesn't come on untill there is a problem, unless you know there is a problem in the system and the light isn't coming on.

Why do you think it should be on??? Like I said in your other post ABS INOP = ABS INOPerative or ABS INOPerable, meaning it comes on when the system is broke...

Are you talking about the low traction light. My abs inop light only comes on when I start the car. The low trac light comes on when the abs is activated.

i know...mine does too...but before the 'big bang' it used to come on when abs came on. low traction still comes on though...
