brokeTA 07-26-2005, 01:33 AM Well we have spent close to a grand on Tunercats obd1 and 2 tuning software, and definition files etc. The obd2 works just fine, but the obd1 is still giving us probs after almost 2 months after purchase. We have not been able to use it yet for anything. We have emailed tc 2 times now with absolutely no response to anything. I know when we were ordering the stuff, and making arrangements for the payment we had no delay in service, but it seems now that we have already paid for it the customer service has gone downhill. This is not a thread to bash them or anything. I just want them to at least help us with getting it up and running.
turbo_Z 07-26-2005, 01:39 AM They have always been prompt at returning any emails I sent in the few times I actually did sent them anything.
What is the problem with the OBD1 software? Maybe people on here can help you out.
brokeTA 07-26-2005, 01:45 AM It keeps saying invalid response from pcm. I know the laptop is good, because that is what we run the obd2 stuff off of. I know the cable is good because I borrowed a friends tunercat obd1 and it worked fine. I know my computer, and my car are both good, because I used my friends setup on my car multiple times now. We have sent them emails twice in the last week with no response. Like I said all I want is them to help us figure this out.
turbo_Z 07-26-2005, 01:49 AM Are you using the windows based flash program on the newest version of tunercat tuner, the old DOS flashprog, or the Winflash?
brokeTA 07-26-2005, 01:54 AM How do I tell the difference? We just got it 2 months ago. So I would assume its the newest version.
turbo_Z 07-26-2005, 02:04 AM Ok then you would have the newest version out there. See, TC made a Winflash program that was actually seperate from the tuner but now its all incorporated into the tuner. I had problems with the Winflash but not the 2.08 or whatever it is newest TC tuner with built-in read/flash capabilities.
Did you say your friend has tunercat for OBD1 and it works fine with your cable? Honestly I think its the laptop causing you trouble. Is the IR port disabled and only 1 COM port active?
brokeTA 07-26-2005, 02:08 AM I will have to check on the laptop stuff tomorrow. My friends obd1 is on a seperate laptop.
Alvin@pcmforless.com 07-26-2005, 12:39 PM So your blaming your problems with your friends laptop on tunercat?
John has exceptional customer service.. always had, always will.
2xLS1 07-26-2005, 01:04 PM I don't think I've ever had to wait more than 24 hrs for a reply from TC via email with any problem unless it was a weekend. Then I had my reply 1st thing Monday morning.
Houdini 07-26-2005, 10:59 PM I had a problem with my TC for OBDll and after one e-mail TC agreed to take my laptop and both blown PCM's and fix the problem. Long story short... my prior Ed Wright tune was screwing up the TC program, TC fixed both blown PCM's and made everything work again, got it all back within 5 days.
Damn good customer service if you ask me!

Tails 07-27-2005, 12:36 AM Same here. Great customer service. Sometimes it takes him a whole day to answer my emails..OH MY GOD!!!! Gimme my money back..:)
Seriously though I dunno..:)

brokeTA 07-27-2005, 03:00 AM First off my friends laptop is the one that works. My don't. Whoever said I blamed my friends laptop not working on tc?? For the record my 94/95 tuner cat won't work or 96/97 (which I spent an hour working with tonight, and almost stranded a customers car). And we have sent two emails to tc with no response. Now on the other hand the obd2 tuner works for the 02 avalanche that we have been tuning on, and also works on 00-01 trucks. We have had great customer service all the way till now. We have spent close to $800 on tuning software, and only part of it works. Anybody else wanna throw that much money out the window? Plus business (because it makes us look like dip ****s)??
brokeTA 07-27-2005, 03:10 AM Oh and Tails it has been at least a month (closer to two months) with this stuff not working. I can understand the weekend thing or the next day or two through the business week, but two weeks with emails and no response? I sent another email tonight, hopefully we can get this resolved by the end of the week.
bunker 07-27-2005, 05:05 AM Just use the old DOS based software, it works great!
LWillmann 07-27-2005, 09:52 AM Since you're trying to run both OBDII and OBDI versions on the same notebook, is it possible that the two are conflicting?
The 96/97 version IS OBDII, btw.
Tails 07-27-2005, 10:04 AM Seriously send him another email so he gets it. I'm sure he's getting slammed with emails like yours on a daily basis so it probably got lost in the fray. **** happens..:)

kevm14 07-27-2005, 01:35 PM John has exceptional customer service.. always had, always will.
John? I thought his name was Tuner Cat :D
Alvin@pcmforless.com 07-27-2005, 01:38 PM The program is obviously proven.. His technical support is also quite awesome. I think the problem here is on your side.. you don' have a port configured right or something.. Theres only so much he can do before you need to actually poke around to figure out your problem.
brokeTA 07-28-2005, 02:18 AM Well we finally got it resolved. The obd2 problem was with vats, and he explained that to us over the phone (we sent an email, and just decided to call this morning), and the obd1 problem was with the type of laptop we were using (something to do with the usb port, and being to slow) so he sent us the software again, and this time we put it on an older laptop and it works fine now. I will say when we got a hold of him the technical advice was great. But I still wish we could have gotten it taken care of a little sooner. But all in all I am happy with everything now.
Thank You Jon
radik 07-29-2005, 03:41 PM Hey guys,
I've just purchased tc after being a total noob with the paypal system, very helpful and prompt I could not say better things about them on the service side.
Tc kicks ass on lt1_edit, if not for the very feature of flashing new pcm's from gm.
See lt1_edit in an attempt to stop piracy of the software codes everything on vin, so if you lose your pcm your kinda screwed; well unless you have tunercat.
Tc made the software I needed to recover my pcm for a FREE 30 day trial!!
So i bought it, just because that kind of thinking is light years beyond the stupid caveman logic employed by carputing.
Upon buying tc and loading it up for the first time I was blown away by the table options compared to lt1_edit..
So in closing if you don't like Tc your screwed, it's the best option period.
tjwong 08-04-2005, 01:46 AM Since you're trying to run both OBDII and OBDI versions on the same notebook, is it possible that the two are conflicting?

No that is not the issue. I run all my tuning software on one laptop, that includes HP Tuners, LS1 edit, TC, the OE GM calibration software, MEFI (RamJet software) all runs well on one laptop. Not to include all sorts of other engineering controls system software for programming PLCs and other devices. It sounds like the guy having the problem may have a corrupted executable in the winflash portion of the tuner program. I would suggest reloading the software and trying it again. I have not had any issues with programming OBD1 PCMs either on board or off board. Certain truck PCMs I always peform programming offboard, this is even with the GM stuff. Corvettes I always use a GM Tools star pac isolator tool to isolate the PCM from all other serial communications.
I forgot to also mention, I haven't had any issues with TC as far as customer relations go. I get an answer usually within a couple hours depending when I email him. There has been an occassion when response time took a day or so but that usually happens on weekends, or if I send a message late in the day as he is three hours ahead of me.
LWillmann 08-04-2005, 02:31 PM I have Tunercat for OBDI and LT1 Edit running on the same laptop, and have not had any problems. But not being familiar with how the two versions of Tunercat install (since I haven't seen the OBDII version yet), I didn't know if this was a possibility.
