First time at the track

Wednesday night was my first trip to the track. I only got two runs in and left with a broken transmission mount. The car is a 93 forumula auto with shift kit and an slp ram air intake/hood as the only modifications.

Run 1
R/T ... .997
60' ... 2.107
1/8 ... 9.197 @75.78
1/4 ... 14.386 @95.5

RUN 2
R/T ...1.189
60' ...2.474
1/8 ... 9.717 @ 75.63
1/4 ... 14.934 @ 95.03

For the first run i was in D which was a bad idea because it shirft into fourth when third reaches around 4000 rpm. So for the second run i was in 3. I think that is why my trap speed is almost the same for the second run as the first. Also, during the first run, on the 1 to 2 shift the tranny mount broke. I made the second run anyways because it was a long drive to the track and i wasnt satisfied with only 1 run. My main concern is those 60' times. Are they bad times for street tires?

Well on your 2nd run it seems you spun the tire really bad and hence your terrible 60' time (don't feel too bad though, I'm still having trouble on the launch myself :( ) If you could bring your 60's down to about 2.0 you could drop another tenth or two off your times and they would look about right for a stock car on street tires. Try different lauch techniques next time out and try changing the pressure in the tires. Try a higher psi for the fronts and drop the rears a little bit.

Your trap speed might be a bit low. Has the car had a tune up recently? What altitude are you racing at? That might explain it as well.

it doesnt look that off to me... my car was runnin 9.2's at teh local 1/8th on around the same 60' (2.2) and that was with a 3.73 gear stronger built 4l60e.. and full exhuast from the manifolds back... but that was also with 18" wheels on the back and before the mad Z tune.. and while the trans wasnt shifting well... but still! looks good for near stock to me *shrug* i dunno though never had mine to teh track before the 18" wheels and im sure that hurts it pretty bad.. =/ need to change them out next time i go... run once with me then take me off for the night just to compare to before i got the trans straight :-p he is right about the trap speed though now that i look back at it.. even with a 1 second pause and letting off to shift i was getting about a 78mph trap.. but i still had a little done to mine (im pretty sure i had the 3.73's in at the time....)

If I put the stock 15's back on the rear would that help out at all? I am running 17" ZR1s right now.

It might help a little bit. What would help alot though would be if you bought a grippier tire. Try finding a set of good tires for your stock rims if you can. I don't know about your track, but at the one where I race, street tires aren't always the best for launching since they don't do proper track prep often.
