Anyone know how I would find out what gears are installed in the rear axle on my '94 Camaro z28? Or am I better off taking it to a mechanic and having them open it up and check?

Rear gear ratio?madcat 07-24-2005, 04:54 AM Anyone know how I would find out what gears are installed in the rear axle on my '94 Camaro z28? If you can't I believe it's 2.73s. Or just look at the RPO codes: GU2 = 2.73 GU4 = 3.08(V6 autos) GU5 = 3.23 GU6 = 3.42(V8 manuals) johnnyb 07-24-2005, 08:32 AM the rpo codes are in your glove box in case you were wondering rskrause 07-24-2005, 09:55 AM The easiest way to find out if you can't get the RPO codes, or if you think the gears may have been changed is to put the rear end up on jackstands in neutal and rotate the rear wheels. The ratio between tire revolutions/driveshaft revolutions = rear axle ratio. Of course, you need to measure carefully as the ratios are pretty close together. It will only go to "2" which you can see on my website. I'll have to double check but I think I might have 2.73. If I do have these gears are they any good? Or should I look into changing them? BLinindoll 07-24-2005, 02:08 PM you have 2.73's. Bow94z 07-24-2005, 02:38 PM Cool thanks guys, this should give me something to do today. Thanks for the info... | ||
