overheating + ac problem

i finally got the car running perfect again, then after sitting outside for 6 hours in 90 degree weather after a car show with the hood up i set off on a 30 minute drive home. as soon as i pulled off the lot the temperature started shooting up on me. after a couple minutes i noticed that the air conditioning was getting warm too (coincidence?). Could these two things be related? I turned off the AC and i had my manual fan switch blowing on high (i verified that the fans were blowing). The temp hovered about 210 for a while, and was a little lower than that on the highway, but when i got off on the stop and go side roads, it got all the way up, almost to the red. Its never been this high before and i find it hard to believe that a hot day could cause this. I checked that coolant was getting through at the thermostat, the fans come on, and i checked the coolant level when it was hot and it seemed to be allright (i need to check it cool later). Ive been getting some white smoke on startup and thats had me worried. I havn't seen any leaks and my water pump was replaced about 25,000 miles ago. Any ideas?

the head pressure of the AC will raise with engine heat and cycle the compressor. No biggie.



Check for an obstruction on the radiator air entry. Also make sure that the air damn under the nose is intack. Check for correct belt tention {no slip}.

Also, check for belt wear. If your clutch is going out, or is out or the belts to loose, it will be much harder for the crank to spin the serpentine due to the added friction, or slack, thus causing less rotations being made on the water pump. Usually if this occurs, youll end up with a melted belt and a nice mess cleaing strands of metal and rubber away from the moving parts. Could also be the water pump getting ready to crap on you. My blazer did that and shortly thereafter it took the deep six on me. Just a couple ideas it couldnt hurt to look at.

thanks guys, turns out it was just the fans. even though i checked them, they wernt coming on when the headlights were turned on. it had to do with how i wired in my manual fan switch. whoops :D
