Spray gun for automotive painting

I'm buying my own equipment to do auto body. I have a some experience but never owned equipment for the job. Now I bought an air compressor and am looking for a good spray gun. What do you guys recommend??? Some of the guns filter air comming through them don't they? Also is it good to get a gravity feed gun? What are your ideas? Thanks for the help!!!

How much are you gonna paint? Some touchup, a whole car, or many cars? I believe about the filters, you usually buy an inline filter that removes moisture and dirt from the incoming air. HVLP seems to be the way to go nowadays because it uses less paint.

devilbiss paint guns all the way.... do a search and you should find their site online but they are a lil pricey

I use a Sata 90. Great gun. It is like $450. By the way HVLP means high volume low pressure. It shoots a lot of paint with less air pressure. It don't use less paint you just don't have as much overspray.

devilbiss has fallen off the charts.. these days youre gonna find that iwata (which is my preference) and sata are on top.. they are pricey but trust me.. you get what you pay for.. the iwata lph 400 is an awesome gun.. great patter and material distribution.. it uses a smaller tip and still hoses the paint out.. you can get a great finish using the same tip for base and clear.. my advice would be to just check out the manufactures sites and ask around the local body shops..

My Sata 90 has a 1.4mm tip. I think I am going back to a 1.3mm tip for clear. I think it sprays more evenly.

I ended up getting a gravity feed HVLP gun off ebay for $50.00. It's quite cheap but I am just doing a couple small jobs for now and figured it wouldn't hurt to check out. It came w/ a 1.4 mm tip and a slightly larger tip for applying primer. Where do I get the inline filter to filter air comming through the gun?

go to an auto paint store. They sell the little filters. Usually under $5

i still stick to my choice devilbiss its all personal preference though
