spark plugsSpeedDemon02SS 07-21-2005, 09:20 AM car has 36k. never changed spark plugs or wires. How much of a difference will i get if i put a good set on there? Anyone recamend plugs or wires? shouldaboughtthez 07-21-2005, 10:10 AM NGK TR55's for non supercharged, turbos and N20. Gap them at .055. NGK TR6's for supercharged, turbos, and N20. Do not know gap size. I run the Taylor 10.4mm wires. I have no problems with them. SpeedDemon02SS 07-21-2005, 10:17 AM has anyone tried the bosch quadra-tips? I heard people were having arcing problems with taylors? shouldaboughtthez 07-21-2005, 10:19 AM has anyone tried the bosch quadra-tips? I heard people were having arcing problems with taylors? I read that same thread. Mine are not arcing. I believe those were on V6 models also. I have never tried the Bosch plugs. SpeedDemon02SS 07-21-2005, 10:21 AM do you notice a difference between the stock, and your set-up? were is the best place to get the wires and plugs...i doubt pepboys will have them? shouldaboughtthez 07-21-2005, 10:27 AM Plugs you can buy at Autozone or O'Reilly. When they look up your car, just ask for the NGK's. Plug wires I bought from HPE, https://www.horsepowerengineering.com/shop/index.php I looked on their site and the LS1 part is down. Just call them and they can help you out. I believe I paid like $70 for the wires. Makes the stock size small as hell. As far as performance wise, I could not feel a "seat of the pants" feel. SpeedDemon02SS 07-21-2005, 10:30 AM anything at the track? im not expecting to pick up .2 or anything, but anything minimal.... shouldaboughtthez 07-21-2005, 10:41 AM My car has never seen the track. SpeedDemon02SS 07-21-2005, 10:45 AM good for you. i dont have that kind of self controll  do the wirees come with the boots? have you heard anything about accell wires? SpeedDemon02SS 07-21-2005, 01:02 PM sorry cant remember the name..brain fart...but... do the wires come wht the 'hands' that hold them in place over the valve covers? also, are they cut to the right size with boots, or do i have to cut them myself? Greed4Speed 07-21-2005, 01:03 PM Neither plug nor wires will make your car faster. All they'll do is restore lost power. Thats why its called a tune up. I don't know whey people try to get more power from plugs, wires, and air filters. Don't waste $ on the +4 bosch. All those "designer" plugs are gimicks. If you are paying over $2/plug you're wasting your cash. Plug wires. I'm running Taylor now w/no probs. I ran them on my 70SS for several years w/no prob. There are other brands out there besides Taylor and MSD that are just as good. Just look for the best deal. Also don't buy into the hype of larger diameter wires. 8mm or 8.5mm will still have the same guage wire, you're just getting more insulation and your car will be no quicker. SpeedDemon02SS 07-21-2005, 01:07 PM I realize im not making my car faster? my comment was not phrased right. more like...if i have bad plugs and wires now; how much power am i losing from bad plugs and wires? Greed4Speed 07-21-2005, 04:27 PM I realize im not making my car faster? my comment was not phrased right. more like...if i have bad plugs and wires now; how much power am i losing from bad plugs and wires? Thats totally dependent on how bad those parts are and is vehicle specific. SpeedDemon02SS 07-21-2005, 04:36 PM mine are pretty bad. the were the factory crap platinum tips. they have seen a decent anount load. the tips are burned, and when i tested them im getting a pretty weak/uneven spark. ive tested the ignition, no problems there. ive just been losing some throttle respons, and it feels a bit sluggish...so im hoping this could alieveate my problems. SpeedDemon02SS 07-21-2005, 06:34 PM im ording stuff from summit... NGK G-Power Platinum Spark Plugs, NGK Iridium Spark Plugs, NGK Racing Spark Plugs, which ones...they dont have antyhing that says specifically NGK-tr55 Greed4Speed 07-21-2005, 09:29 PM Copper shouldaboughtthez 07-22-2005, 10:39 AM sorry cant remember the name..brain fart...but... do the wires come wht the 'hands' that hold them in place over the valve covers? also, are they cut to the right size with boots, or do i have to cut them myself? Mine were cut to the right lenght and already put together. Why are you ordering plugs from Summit? Why not get them from the parts store down the street? SpeedDemon02SS 07-22-2005, 10:59 AM at first it was just easier cause i was ordering the wires from them. but the wires arnt in stock, so im getting them at the local store, and ordering the wires. angel71rs 07-22-2005, 09:47 PM more like...if i have bad plugs and wires now; how much power am i losing from bad plugs and wires? I felt a clear difference when I replaced the factory plugs at 50k. You can't feel a 10 hp boost, so figure at least 20 hp. The originals were in really bad shape, some were missing the little puck on the ground electrode, huge gaps. I used regular Bosch platinums, cheap at Autozone. I ohmed the original plug wires and all were ~ 300 ohms, so I reused them. I have read that some guys tear up the wires removing them, but I was careful and got them off no problems. danziger 07-23-2005, 08:46 AM NGK TR55s are a good choice for N/A and gap them around 55-58ish. I have the NGK TR6s gapped at 38 and they are also a great plug...especially for nitrous. KY98LS1 07-24-2005, 08:25 AM Spark plugs are PITA to change on LS1. AC Delco has an iridium plug which should last longer than $2 spark plug. Keliente@pcmforless 07-24-2005, 12:33 PM You are not going to get any hp gain with new plugs or wires. Sure we've all seen people get up on the dyno with new fancy $10 each plugs and show a few more hp - but most folks forget that it's easy to trick a car into gaining a couple points by letting it cool down fully, etc... I get the $1.88 NGK TR55 plugs and they work just fine gapped at .050. I originally gapped them around .058 and the car broke up really bad over 5500rpm. I would never replace the wires unless one of them was damaged, it is a waste of money. Keliente@pcmforless 07-24-2005, 12:34 PM And since you said you've never done the plugs before, do yourself a favor and get #8 from underneath the car. GoFast908Z 12-14-2005, 02:22 AM so which is it?...... 0.50 or 0.58 ?? SpeedDemon02SS 12-14-2005, 09:09 AM .55 hot white z 12-14-2005, 11:25 PM I agree with Greed4Speed, you don't need anything special, and avoid platinum+4's, +2's, splitfires, rapidfires, and any other gimmick out there like the plague. I always replace my plugs with AC Delco's. Your engine will love you if you put exactly what came in it back in, in your case AC Delco platinums. You can get any 8mm or 8.8mm low-resistance wire you like and you'll be fine. I've used the Accel and MSD wires and they both work like champs. An MSD box will help a lot if you invest in one. Greed4Speed 12-15-2005, 02:49 PM An MSD box will help a lot if you invest in one. Not with an LS1. SpeedDemon02SS 12-15-2005, 03:26 PM Not with an LS1. Dont you only need an MSD box if you have N20, forced induction, or some serious internal mods? Greed4Speed 12-15-2005, 07:51 PM Not on an LS1. | ||
